Ignore the others. A tennis ball can definitely spin. You use just the same technique as with a leather ball. Yes you will not get huge turn on roads, cement or hard pitches but it definitely will spin. What you need to do is provide rotations to the ball in whichever way you want it to spin. These rotations can be given using your wrist, fingers or both. You have to grip the ball in 2 or 3 fingers and through your action you have to let the ball slip through your fingers and compound it with your wrist movements if you can. It is hard to explain like this so I recommend you watch a couple of videos or picture guides from internet to get going. Just use them as rough guides and ultimately it will be all about practice and the way you feel comfortable holding and releasing the ball.
