In case it is of interest to anyone, from tomorrow I'll be on a well earned holiday in southern New South Wales and I'll be back on Monday. Though the weather forecast has slightly dimmed my happiness about it, I'll be driving 600KM in 40°C heat.

40°C is a bit on the unpleasant side. I would take 0°C over 40°C any day.
