ICC Champions Trophy 2009

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Monday again left out the players who chose to strike during the Test, One-day and Twenty20 series against Bangladesh in July in the Caribbean. Former skipper Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Bravo and Jerome Taylor are the main stars absent. The side will again be led by 37-year-old Floyd Reifer and includes two uncapped players in all-rounder Royston Crandon and wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton.

If thats the case then it will be very difficult for WI to get into the final stages of the trophy...

What a waste of time to have the WI team for this tournament!!

Makes Group A even more interesting now; assuming all teams beat West Indies, it will be a repeat of the Videocon Cup in 2004 (Pakistan, India, Australia).

It makes the India v Pakistan game ever so important anyway and also NRR in that group can come into factor as well.

Yuvraj with left arm spin will eat Pakistan batsman.

Part-time left arm spinners don't do us in.

You have to play a specialist, try Murali Karthik.

We have made every left-arm spinner look like Shane Warne, starting with Robin Petersen, Monty Panesar, Paul Harris, Herath, you name it.

Pakistan vs India game will be crucial. Australia will be favorites in ODI's although India are ranked higher these days. India are a better team, but when it comes to Ind-Pak games, no one is favorite. Dravid and Sachin's presence will boost us. I think we will beat Pakistan this time.

what makes it even worse is that instead of selecting a young fast bowler they go back to Powell :noway. These people are useless.

According to Alistair Campbell, there should be a tri-series between WI, Zim and Ban and whoever wins it gets qualified for the Champions Trophy.

Uv greater than all of them. ;)

And I will stop watching cricket if Kartick plays for India.

Kartik will stop watching YOU.
Wrong Karthik.

It's a good idea, but on what basis can they put West Indies spot in the Champions Trophy up for grabs?

I believe they did in 2006. There was a qualifying tournament between West Indies, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and someone else I think.

EDIT: Was WI, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

They did do it, but that was already set in the playing conditions that there would be a play-off tournament.

Where are they going to be able to justify such a change with just a month to go?

And how would they single out the West Indies only as well - it's just not practical unfortunately.

It wont be bad to have a qualifying thing where WI is involved. Seriously the WI are going to spoil the excitement by sending a weak team (due to their internal disputes) for this trophy. Had their best team come, Group A would be the best group of the tournament with all sides having a chance of being in the Top two for the semis.
