ICC Champions Trophy 2013 - England & Wales

Many says ''Pakistan can not be beaten on Fridays''.

I have heard this quite often when I was a kid. But it pure myth and that too quite a rubbish one. Muslims do their special prayers on Friday, but if prayers are answered everytime, then this world must be a heaven to live in. Well, we all know its not!:noway

I am worried about our next match against WI at Kennington Oval. With the likes of Roach and Rampaul and the conditions helping them, India should find it quite hard. The good thing is, India's batting can be expected to do better than Pakistan's batting, but still when the conditions are tough, India's batting can collapse.

Add to that the fact that quite a few Muslims play for teams other than Pakistan as well :yes. Coming back to the cricket, its turning out to be a superb tournament so far. It has attracted my interest so far. With all teams being more or less even, I expect more such games. Bring it on!

Well that was dissapointing. A very bad display of batting from pakistan. And I blame Shoaib maik for that . He should have assisted misbah rather than getting out cheaply. At least he should have played 40 balls. even an average 20 score from malik or kamran would have changed the result.

Pakistan and India, are the more frustrating teams to support in the world. I come from India, and a lot is said about the rivalry with Pakistan but, I rather see them win, than any other country. I have a few issues with Pakistan cricket, which I hope some fellow Pakistani friends could answer.

1) Misbah-Ul-Haq : I feel, he's the right man to lead Pakistan. He has a calm about him, which is needed when you captain teams like India/Pakistan as our people and administrators can be rather fickle and tend to sway with the wind, more so with Pakistan. However, his tactics often absolutely amaze me. He's a good enough batsman, easily one of Pakistan's best and I feel a little too much is made about his S/R. But, like I said, his tactics are baffling and his field placements are often not just defensive, but more in the favor of the opposition. Just to site out an example : Pollard doesn't play the short stuff well. He put the seamers on, which was good, but he gave him a slip. Now, if your bowlers are bowling back of a length and peppering him with the short stuff, you need a short leg, not a slip. His field placements, are very unimaginative and very defensive, a lot like MS Dhoni in tests.

2) Kamran Akmal : I, for the life of me, cannot understand, how he still merits a place in the Pakistan team. He's been there for a good 6-7 years now and is yet to cement a place in the batting order. I don't think he's good enough to open, and his abilities as a finisher are far from proven. I'm all for giving a player a run and numerous chances, but six years is just a little too much. Most importantly, his keeping is just aweful. He almost dropped Pollard, which was straight forward, and after years of keeping to Ajmal, he still doesn't pick him. I've never seen him stay put to any of the doosra's that Ajmal bowls. As a result, he gets himself into absurd positions and tangles up catches and stumpings.

3) Mohommad Hafeez: He's someone, who would make the XI of any team around the world. But, he is NOT an opener. His technique is just not suited to the moving ball and with cricket evolving, it is of imperative importance to see off the new ball and keep wickets in tact. Hafeez, is much better off batting in the middle, when the new ball has lost it's shine and he can work the bowling around in the middle when the spinners/medium pacers are operating. He should have a direct swap with Shafiq, who I feel is one of the better young and emerging talents in Pakistan.

4) Shoaib Malik: I think, his time is up. He may win you the odd match in the sub continent on flat tracks, but that you get with Umar Akmal too and I can't imagine how pakistan manage to drop their best young batsmen. You need to give guy a run and the confidence of not being dropped as well as a settled position. It's one of the good things to have happened to Indian cricket with the advent of MS Dhoni and I hope, Misbah can do the same with Pakistan.

Lastly, it's a pity India and Pakistan got separated, at least in terms of cricket. You drop an Indian batsman and I assure you, there are three or four waiting in the wings who are ready to play at any level and at any format. The same can be said for Pakistan, when it comes to the bowling. Drop a quick, and you have another ready to clock 90mph and swing it. India lacks this with the ball, while Pakistan lack quality with the willow.

First, I am glad to hear about you interest in Pakistani cricket. I may support Pakistan, but enjoy watching India win. And my favorite player has been Raina (for a long time) and lately joined by Kohli.

About Misbah, agreed. No agrument at all. However, in the recent Faysal Bank t20 (equivalent to IPL in Pakistan) he scored atleast 3 or 4 half centuries at over 150 strike rate. So he can hit the ball.

About the keeper, yes he is crap. But he is the only one who can bat. None of the Pakistani keepers can bat at all.

Shoaib Malik, needs to be put up the order or dropped all together.

No that is true. But there is always so far, prayers can take you. West Indies were the better side and won.

same here i also loss vcash :(

pakistan cricket team (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) is bunch of noobs

So why you put your vcash on them?? :p

Was nice to be a bit more aggression first up with the ball from WI (I only watched first 20 overs, then went to bed :D). Was great to see Shafiq get worked over when he came out, with an actual plan to get him out, rather than the generic field sets we so often see.

Even though Sanjay Manjarekar had an orgy over how well Rohit Sharma played the short ball, anybody think Roach and Rampaul will try to bounce India out on Tuesday?

Even the South Africans tried a lot of short stuff last game. Its not the short ball but the swing and movement that will unsettle India. If the conditions are sunny and good, India will have a great time. But if the conditions are windy and encourage swing, India could be in great trouble.

But eh!! Everybody loves these typo matches!!
Low scoring, though yeah, Indies finished it early, Pakistan's batting line-up was already half decent, and then you go with pace, swing and bounce. Have faith in Pakistan's bowling though, might win the match against the RSA!! But there is a lot of time!!

Yet another big match today, Australia vs England. Overcast conditions for the day. May be we are up for yet another thriller, won't rule out Australia's chances ( placed vcash on them) given England's dismal performance against NZ in the OD's. Broad and Finn seem to be fit, while Australia will look forward to Bailey and Voges to solidify the middle order in the absence of Clarke. I hope there had been Ferguson too!

170 is a good score to chase. We can do it quite easily if Gayle stays there for long but I would like to see other players stepping up and deliver. We can't rely on Gayle to win us every game. Someone like Darren Bravo or Samuels will need to play a mature innings to see us home.

Like I said, more players have to take the responsibility and I must say the fans would be disappointed the way the players batted against Pakistan. C'mon Calypsos!

Pakistan's bowling lineup is one of the best we have seen in recent times, miles ahead of the one-dimensional South African bowling unit. Guys like Sarwan, Bravo etc got out to some real good balls.

It's going to be very tough for Martin guptill to get a century here!! :D

SRI all out for 137 :p Moreover, they opted for Herath only as specialist spinner. Senanayake and Jeevan mendis had to sit out. Worst decision on this pitch where India dominated the last game against SAF with the help of Spin department. :facepalm Vettori and Nathan rocked today :cheers

May be Pakistanis have better attack but they are not full strength in the torunament and why would you bring in South Africa here when the discussion was only about the WI-Pakistan game? We are to lock horns with the Indians on 11th, not the Africans.

Agreed the Pakistanis are not full strenght, frightening to think when Gul and Asif becomes available how dangerous that bowling lineup would be. I used SA since by many they are regarded as having the best bowling lineup with Steyn/Morkel and co.

You can lock horns with a raging bull with his pants down for all I care but on the 11th I would be supporting the West Indians to rough up the Indians also.
