PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

Steve-Smith-CT17.ashx

:bat:Steven Smith :c:
Started his Test career as a legspinner who batted at No.8; by the time he was named Australia's captain and now he is the No.1 Test batsman in the world. Smith made his first-class debut in 2008, playing for New South Wales against Western Australia. Two years later he was given his Baggy Green in a Test match against Pakistan, where he batted at no.8 and took three wickets as the front-line spinner in a Test victory for the Aussies. Smith captained Australia’s Test side for the first time against India in the 2014-15 summer, filling in for an injured Michael Clarke. It was a landmark series for Smith, who posted tons in all four Tests against India. Smith reached the no.1 ICC Test batsmen ranking for the first time in June 2015 and was officially named Australia’s full-time Test skipper at the end of the 2015 Ashes in England. He was also awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year 2015.

Peter-Nevill-Shield16.ashx

:wkb:Peter Nevill v:c:

Having started his first-class career at Victoria, wicketkeeper-batsman Peter Nevill has been an important member of the NSW side since he arrived at the Blues in 2008. And now he is highly regarded as Australia’s best man behind the stumps. Nevill's leadership has also been recognised - he captained a Cricket Australia Invitational XI against the touring England side in 2013-14 and made his Sheffield Shield captaincy debut in the same month.

Tom-Cooper-Shield16.ashx

:bat:Tom Cooper

He is a right-handed aggressive middle order batsman. made his state debut in 2008 and quickly made an impression, scoring a century against New South Wales, the state of his birth, in just his fourth one-day match for South Australia. He became the first cricketer to score half-centuries in each of his first three ODIs before he added a century in his fifth match and 96 in his seventh, at which point his average was 81.33.

Niroshan-Dickwella-CT17.ashx

:wkb:Niroshan Dickwella
An attacking left-hand and unorthodox wicketkeeper-batsman, Niroshan Dickwella arrived in first-class cricket already having built some hype through his stellar school cricket career.Dickwella won the Sri Lanka schoolboy cricketer of the year award in 2012 after leading Trinity College to the championship. And in the recent series against Zimbabwe he scored back to back centuries.

576867.html

:wkb:Prashant Chopra

Prashant Chopra is an Indian Under-19 player. He was in the 2012 ICC under-19 cricket world cup champion India Team. Chopra represents Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy and holds the record of most runs by a Himachal Pradesh batsman in a Ranji Trophy season and 3rd in the Season 16/17.

Jake-Lehmann-Shield16.ashx

:bat:Jake Lehmann

Left-handed batsman Jake Lehmann is proving that he is more than just a name. The son of Australian coach Darren, Lehmann has been rewarded with his first rookie contract with the West End Redbacks for season 2014-15 on the back of some impressive performances. Jake Lehmann stepped out of the shadows of his father during the 2015-16 season, scoring the first three centuries of his first-class career and compiling 623 Sheffield Shield runs at 44.50 for South Australia.

Jake-Carder-Matador16.ashx

:bat:Jake Carder

Carder was leading run scorer at the 2014-15 U19 Championships, notching up 366 runs at 73.2 with a tournament high score of 161. He’s always busy at the crease, but his maturity shone through as he managed to score runs when his team needed it most. The left-hander made his first-class debut for the Cricket Australia XI in a tour match against the West Indies in 2015, compiling 58 in an impressive innings against an international-calibre bowling attack.

Alex_Ross_1617.ashx

:bat: Alex Ross

A hard-hitting right handed batsman, Ross enjoyed an outstanding 2015-16 and joined some decorated figures when he received the Bradman Young Cricket of the Year award at the Allan Border Medal night. He fell just short of notching a maiden century in an otherwise impressive summer, recording scores of 88 not out and 97 out in the Matador Cup and 92 not out in the Sheffield Shield. Ross, who has used his much-vaunted sweep shot effectively in all formats, looks to have a bright future with NSW.

Warriors-Clint_Hinchliffe-201617.ashx

:ar: Clint Hinchliffe

Hinchliffe was most recently named ‘Player of the Championships’ for the Under 19 carnival, joining the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Usman Khawaja and Travis Head. It was not only his 446 runs at an average of 55.75 that impressed, but his 10 wickets at 17.5, including 5/32. His shot at the AFL draft narrowly passed him but his attention on cricket has earned him major plaudits from the national talent managers and a spot in the Australian Under 19 squad. The 19-year-old has also dipped his toes in the Toyota Futures League setup, with a half-century on debut.

Joe_Mennie_02.ashx

:bwl: Joe Mennie

A tall bowler who relies on consistency and accuracy rather than sheer pace, Joe Mennie has been one of the Sheffield Shield's most reliable wicket takers. Debuting in 2011, he picked up 23 wickets at 26.26 in the Sheffield Shield that summer and he was the fourth-highest wicket taker the following season with 33 at 22.03 from just six matches, before he took 19 wickets in 2013-14. Mennie has also proven himself to be a more than handy batsman in his first three seasons, with three half centuries and a top score of 79 not out.

Chadd_Sayers_1617.ashx

:bwl: Chadd Sayers

A right-arm opening bowler who swings the ball late, Chadd Sayers came from obscurity with an incredible 2012-13 season to put himself on the verge of Ashes selection. Sayers topped the Sheffield Shield wicket tally with 48 at 18.52 to be named South Australia’s player of the season and while a Test call-up didn’t come, he picked up 36 wickets the following season and then impressed playing for Australia A in 2014 to be knocking on the door of national selectors. He was limited to five Shield appearances in 2014-15 due to ankle surgery, before bouncing back last Shield season with 32 wickets in eight games – the reward for which was selection for Australia’s tour of New Zealand earlier this year.

Amir-Hamza-wt20.ashx

:bwl: Amir Hamza

Amir Hamza Hotak is a left-arm orthodox spinner. He was included in the Afghanistan Under-19 squad for the 2010 World Cup in New Zealand. And made his international Odi debut against Pakisthan.
