I would have gone in with a surprise pick like Umesh Yadav who looks impressive rather than Vinay Kumar who is just a bits and pieces cricketer. Some of the mindless batting in the IPL has made him look good, nothing else.

Vinay Kumar has at least been consistent, even if he's not been impressive. Umesh Yadav has got pace but he struggles to find the right length, usually bowling way too full. Very exciting prospect with his pace, but still needs some time in domestic cricket.

I would actually not be surprised if Afghanistan pull off an upset against us in the first round. Guys like Nohit Sharma and UV look so very unfit. Both have put on weight and act as if they`ve mastered the game which they clearly have`nt. UV, Yusuf and Nohit will struggle on the dull Carribean wickets.

That's too much actually. It happens. You just don't give India a chance and that is when they perform. Still, there are many matches to go in the IPL. These guys can find form hopefully. But, yes I'm surprised they haven't included Manish or Robin.

I`d be willing to gamble with raw talent in the seam bowling department, especially give how all our seamers have lost pace, than settle for someone who is so clearly just a mediocre talent. I`m not even looking at the T20 WC as the clear objective. One thing is pretty sure that Vinay Kumar, like Joginder Sharma won`t be playing the 2011 World Cup as he simply does not have the pace or ability to trouble good batsmen in a non-slog environment. We have 9 months or so before the WC to find a couple of bowlers who can bowl decent pace and offer something different. Vinay Kumar clearly is`nt one.

All my comments are very specifically applicable to the Indian T20 side only. We are a really good ODI and Test unit but our T20 squad just consists of a group of players with bloated egos and think of the T20 format as the one in which they rule, thanks to the IPL.

Agreed. But, the selectors surely couldn't leave Yuvraj out. Rohit doesn't deserve to be there but still he is included. God knows what selectors were thinking.

I agree with you on Vinay Kumar actually. If the selectors were looking forward for a new option then Umesh Yadav seems really good. He has the pace but just needs to work on his pitching. He could have worked on it before the WC or atleast he could have tried.

I am very surprised after looking at Indian squad, Piyush Chawla and Rohit Sharma back in the team lol. I would have prefered rather expected, Pragyan Ojha, Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa.

Very poor MANISH PANDEY, selection committee sucks big time. :facepalm

Ashish nehra is still injured, so Sudeep Tyagi or Sreesanth's inclusion was expected.

MISS U SACHIN !!! :hpraise

I would have liked to see Irfan Pathan and Robin Utthapa in the side instead of R.Sharma and P.Chawla

Or even P.Ojha in place of P.Chawla

They could not select Uthappa as he was not in the probables list.
Though Vinay Kumar has been selected , I am pretty much sure that he wouldn't be playing more than 1-2 matches.
A lot of pressure this time on Dhoni , IMO

I dont really understand why people are so against Rohit Sharma? I mean in the previous World Cup he was the 2nd highest run scorer for India, opening the innings. Yeah he doesnt deserve any place near the ODI side, but for T20s I'd keep him.

Uthappa continues to be MIA. I really did not get why he was dropped out in the first place and he is one of India's better batsmen in this version of the game.

Vinay Kumar's place puzzles me, he is a good player in the IPL but I dont think he has the 'X' factor to represent India.

Chawla is an interesting choice. A leg-spinner can be handy in T20s and I think that is what the selection commitee had in mind when they picked him.

Jadeja gets to be in AGAIN? I really dont understand why he is in the setup, he did nothing in the first place to warrant a place in the Indian XI and I really dont rate him as a T20 player at all. The only reason that makes sense is that he is an allrounder.

The only change I would recommend is to drop Jadeja and bring in Uthappa/Pandey. The latter is unlikely as India already have a strong opening pair. Might decide to drop Rohit Sharma or Vinay Kumar provided there are decent replacements.

Horrible, absolutely horrible selection. No Manish Pandey, no Virat Kohli, and the guy selected is ROHIT SHARMA!!!!:doh:facepalm While I like Piyush Chawla and wanted him back in the team, Pragyan Ojha is a better option as he has been a very good spinner so far in his stint with the team and he has done really well in IPL's. No Robin Uthappa or Irfan Pathan. I thought they would go with Ishant who showed improving signs in the few games in this IPL.

I am with Adi here. I dont expect India to reach the semifinals here. Hope we dont embarass ourselves big time here.

Pathetic Selection.

What is this?,

They dropped Pandey,Kohli ,Ojha, Mishra and included Rohit , V.Kumar in the team.

Are our selectors mentally retarded?

I don't know Pandey needed to do what to get selected and Rohit needed to do what to get dropped.

I have really got no words to describe the downright stupidity and cheap appeasement policy of Kris Srikkanth and his bunch of jokers. :facepalm

Zimbabwe squad Prosper Utseya (capt), Brendan Taylor, Charles Coventry, Andy Blignaut, Hamilton Masakadza, Tatenda Taibu (wk), Greg Lamb, Elton Chigumbura, Vusi Sibanda, Ray Price, Graeme Cremer, Chamu Chibhabha, Chris Mpofu, Timycen Maruma, Craig Ervine

So Blignaut makes a return to the squad. Not much changed from the squad that toured the Caribbean couple of weeks ago.

People base too much off that one Jadeja innings. He shouldn't have been sent in at 4 in that match. Dhoni's mistake. That was a stupid gamble. Your failures are remembered much more than your successes it seems.

Also, Manish Pandey is a middle order batsman. He can bat anywhere from 1-6 as far as I'm concerned and he'll do a good enough job. Bangalore open with him because he's been successful at that position. In List A cricket though, he generally bats anywhere from 3-5. Can switch gears, play the anchor or the aggresor and has shown a lot of temperament.

The last World Cup, Rohit Sharma hit a 50 against Ireland. Take that out, and I think the it would be a different story. He didn't really perform in any other match. The thing about Rohit is, he gets out at very crucial times consistently. After getting a start, he'll randomly throw it away. He's not ready yet mentally.
