Great start for USA, Cush in the action again. Hopefully we can keep them to under 140, I think anything more and we will struggle against their spin.

Afgh 31/1 (5.4 ov, Noor Ali 20*, Nowroz Mangal 11*, Imran Awan 0/12) | Live Scorecard | Cricinfo.com

Basically a knockout for us, even if we win this one its still a long shot for qualifying, the Afghans are basically 1 win away (in the 2nd stage) from qualifying for the World 2020

Just as I was typing that ^ this happened

5.3

Imran Awan to Noor Ali, FOUR, full length, on the pads, flicks it to fine leg again

5.2

Imran Awan to Noor Ali, FOUR, another short one, down the leg, pulls it to the fine leg boundary

5.1

Imran Awan to Noor Ali, FOUR, first up, short ball, smashed to the mid wicket boundary.

:facepalm

Anyone that actually follows associate cricket knows that they are one of the best newer teams and are capable of upsetting anyone (including Zim).

Big hitting and spin bowling, thats their formula

Dammit Cush has bowled all 4 off his overs on the trott :facepalm Going to get mauled at the death now

Afghanistan will be the underdogs in the true sense if they make it to the WT20 in WI, which I think they should.

Don't know what to make of our T20 squads lately, Hauritz and Hussey haven't been named in either but would have thought both would be in the frame. Since its a 14 man squad there is one more spot up for grab, guess Birt might drop out meaning both Hauritz and Hussey are back but that would complicate the final lineup and be annoying since neither have played T20 recently.

I agree with Hauritz not being in the T20 squad to be honest. Looking at the grounds in the Caribbean being used for the T20 WC, Guyana, Barbados & ST.Lucia are fairly small & i think spinners may go the distance.

Presuming Lee comes back strong & gets some game in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab i reckon AUS should unleash a 4-prong 150+ pace attack Lee/Tait/Nannes/Johnson. The great thing about this attack, its that all 4 are very good T20 bowlers.

Looking at the recent T20 squad:

quote said:
Australia Twenty20 squad Shane Watson, David Warner, Shaun Marsh, Michael Clarke (capt), Cameron White, David Hussey, Travis Birt, Brad Haddin (wk), Steven Smith, Daniel Christian, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Dirk Nannes, Shaun Tait

The 15th player should be Lee once fit. I think M Hussey's hitting ability has kind of regressed that why he has not be picked. Hopefully Birt gets a chance to prove himself in T20s vs WI & NZ since by all accounts for Tasmania he is real power hitter.

Looking at the Australia's 2 T20 games, I have to admit they do look a lot more threatening...

Just been playing around with our best lineup for this comp. Came up with

Watson
Warner
White (Obviously will be Clarke though so maybe drop White off since he isn't bowling and hes been average in T20)
David Hussey
Mike Hussey
Brad Haddin
Steven Smith
Johnson
Lee
Nannes
Tait

David Hussey and Smith cover the spin bowling and given Clarke will be there he can bowl too. 4 150km/h bowlers plus Watson. If Lee isn't fit you could put Harris/Bollinger, Hauritz or even Christian. Mike Hussey in there to steady our frequent middle order collapses.

The perfect AUS T20 team would have Hodge & Symonds in it i'd say.

Watson
Warner
Hodge
White
Symonds
D Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Lee
Nannes
Tait

Smith, Harris/Bollinger, Marsh, Christian.

That middle-order would have been killer!

I don;t think we'll have four bowlers and Smith, considering our recent middle order wobbles.
