A shame really that there isn't a reserve day here. One washout can send a team crashing out of the tournament. If any of the big teams were to face such a situation, the format would've been promptly changed-like it happened in West Indies 2007.

The Dutch are quite a competitive lot and it hurts to see them bow out this way, especially after the heroics they displayed last time round.

They have reserve days for the main tournament I think

I don't get how ICC schedules tournaments. Shouldn't it have been two matches in two different venues? So that today, maybe, Netherlands vs Oman could have happened after a delayed start. First make all the associates face other associates and then allow only two teams out of eight to proceed into next round where all big teams would be waiting. This means, even after a highly rare opportunity, only two associate nations will have the chance to test themselves against test cricketing countries (only if Bangladesh and Zimbabwe doesn't qualify though). Before that, don't give them enough chance either in case weather interrupts the play. What even is the point of having reserve days or separate venues just for so called "main tournament" and not for the round that take place earlier. Is it not equally important? Does ICC really give a fukc about emerging countries? I think not. Definitely, a wrong organization is governing global cricket right now.

After the completion of this phase, everything cools down and everyone praise ICC for organising this event in India and BCCI for managing the things systematically.

If that's addressed to me, let me tell you, honestly, I have 'never' been a fan of ICC or BCCI. They're money makers. They are part of enough reasons that slowed the growth of cricket in places like Ireland, Scotland, US, Afghanistan and many more. Those sides should have been able to compete in test cricket by now if ICC actually had endeavored for it. I swear I won't praise these two stupid fund distributors even if they finish this event without obstacles, just because I can't forget the ugly role they always have been playing which has costed many good things into cricket.

Sorry, I went a bit off topic here. But I just had to clear few things.

Nah. It was a general statement. In the past, WT20 was played with associate after qualifiers round. I don't think ICC has done anything wrong in having qualifiers round prior to the actual WT20 round. Let me make things clear at this. Previously, we had only one qualifiers round where 6-8 associates teams played the qualifiers and the winning team along with the runner-up used to join the strong teams in the WT20 tournment. But due to increase in no. of associate teams and their affiliation with ICC, the ICC had to conduct 2 rounds of qualifiers which took place in Ireland & Scotland (1st phase) and 1st round of WT20 India (2nd phase).

So I don't think any of the team was neglected or was given less importance.

So the match between Bangladesh and Ireland reduced to 12 overs... Bangladesh are in good shape with 20 runs in just 2 overs. It will be an interesting mess out

94/2 in 8 overs Bangladesh surely favorites from now on. Ireland will need a blast of a start. If Zimbabwe win against Afghanistan it will be sad that the same 10 countries play every tweaking time. The wT20 has to be 16 teams tournamnet. No need of qualifiers etc

And with that yet another match got consumed by the rain... Now it will be a decider again with a match between Bangladesh and Oman on Sunday

both groups have gone down to deciding matches: the Afghanistan/Zimbabwe game tomorrow is also one. The Scotland/Hong Kong game is also important to me since its really one that we should easily win although based on how we've played this tournament I expect us to give it away again. If I had to make predictions I'd say that Bangladesh and Afghanistan would be the two qualifiers, but it depends which Zimbabwe turns up. I'll be cheering very loudly for Oman though!

I won't go into another rant about how this is an incredibly dumb format: I will change my conclusion to say that I think that we've proven that a 20 team competition with 4 groups of 5 teams would work. You might get a few uncompetitive games but you get those anyway with the Full Members, and what I've seen of these games has been absolutely cracking. Besides I think that the "uncompetitive games" thing is very exaggerated: Bangladesh almost won the Asia Cup this year and yet they were run close by the Netherlands and I'm pretty sure the game with Ireland would have been a close one. There seems to be changes in the ICC: hopefully any changes benefit all Associate teams rather than just the preferred few.

Well, I don't think it won't be many people that will praise the BCCI, considering the terrible job they've done selling tickets. I wouldn't be surprised if the matches between non-asian teams are played in front of half-empty stadiums. As far as giving the tournament to India, it was done a long time ago.

Regret making 8 transfers to my fantasy league with today's washouts.
