I'm a little confused

To answer Kev's question, I care a lot about England International and County cricket, but as for other countries county setups, I don't care much because I never get to see them. And I only care about other International cricket matches when they are on Sky because I can actually see the action, rather than just looking at a scoreboard. So I didn't post much in the South Africa in Sri Lanka thread because I never saw it, but I post a hell of a lot in the Pakistan in England thread because I can see it, and because it involves my team.

I think TV coverage plays a major part, because with almost every football match domestically or internationally, you can see the action live, on highlights, or on Sky Sports News, wheras with cricket, you get the bare minumum. To this day I have never seen any footage of county games outside of England.

I would be interested to find how the people who like the "minnow" international matches feel about domestic setups in England and Australia etc. Do you follow them at all or is the interest mainly on internationals?
Well I check out the scorecards for many county games. Living in the US, I have no way of watching them, but I'd love to attend a Sussex game someday. I'll check out the Aussie circuit every one in a while and keep an eye on Pakistani domestic season to see which players are doing well. But my main focus is on the internationals.

I keep my action centered to the cricketing side of the forum--no interest in football so I don't even go there. In that regard, it has been annoying to come into the Cricket Chat Forum 2 days after I post there and find my post still being the last one. That doesn't matter, I guess, because people should only post if they have something useful to say.

I don't really keep up with all the different subforums because there's too many layers of navigation that I do not really want to go through. I do occasionally check out how the lower minnows are doing, but only superficially.

I'll watch cricket whatever level it is, but I wouldn't go out my way to follow the "lower" teams.
Also, I am completely crap at playing football, which stubs my enthiasm for it a bit. (yes, I know, half of you are probably crap too and love it, its just how I feel). Although it is nice to follow England in football. I also find that neutrality with domestic football is useful in many situations, like a chelsea vs man utd fight.

If you ever think of coming to sunny old England while we still post on here, contact me and I'll show you the 'brilliant' county ground. It's very much a family ground.

In terms of minnows action, it would also be nice if Sites like CricInfo hosted their scores, instead of searching Google for 30 minutes trying to find just a brief description and uncomplete scorecard.

Cricinfo have long since stop bothering with non-test cricket. They're actually hostile to the games expansion these days.

I'm doing my bit at Beyond The Boundary (link in my sig) with a limited audience though. Cricket Europe is expanding it's coverage of non-test cricket outside Europe too, and hopes to provide live coverage of all major non-test tournaments next year. When Cricinfo provide live coverage of a match involving a non-test team, it's usually "borrowed" from them.

Euro Qualis = Now
WC2007 = Months away.

I also don't like being reminded of our ODI failings.

Let me bring in a neutral perspective here as my country neither takes part in the WC Qualifiers in Cricket or in the Euro 08 qualifiers in football.

The thing why people are talking a lot about the latter is because almost every country has a representative in league football.People even watch Israel play in the Euro qualifiers as a couple of their players are known to us.

On the contrary the WC qualifiers have teams whose players we know very little about, the games do not get TV Coverage(atleast not here) and just following them through Cricinfo doesnt give that much information about teams and players as watching them actually play does.

The thing is unless these tournaments are not given some exposure and shown on TV,they arent going to catch as much interest.Atleast thats my opinion.

I personally don't think Cricinfo is hostile to the game's expansion. They first of all have a regular column "Beyond the Test World" which covers anything from the Intercontinental Cup to the journeys of junior teams from Hong Kong and as far as Brazil.

Any site that goes to such lengths is obviously neutral to emerging nations, if not supportive. Countries such as the Netherlands, USA, Canada and Scotland, and many more feature their own page in the site. And there is "Other Countries", which gives sufficient coverage of the rest, although it is not as glamorous.

Cricinfo magazine also covers the Associates, and there are articles posted up on the site from the magazine, such as this one the building of cricket as a sport in China, a very interestin read.

Btw, a great topic you have started Andrew, I hope we get many more individual opinions and views on this.

Regular column? It hasn't been updated since February. The person who writes it doesn't even work for cricinfo anymore. Wisden (same company as cricinfo) attacked the games expansion in this years almanack and the editor of cricinfo did the same. The BTTW blog rarely covers the major non-test news, and had only three or four posts on the ACC Trophy. And the blog also supported the editors attack on the game's expansion. They provide ZERO live coverage of non-test cricket (unless "borrowed" from elsewhere), even though they'll happily provide coverage of second XI county games!

I provide more non-test coverage on my site than cricinfo. I had reports from all but the first two days of the ACC Trophy, reports from every day of the African WCL Division Two tournament and reports from every day of the European Championship Divisions One, Two, Four.

These sites are not sufficient in the slightest. They're rarely updated. The only ones that are (Hong Kong and Israel) are updated by the respective boards. Check out coverage on Cricket Europe and then tell me if cricinfo is good enough.

Maybe cricinfo don't give news about it because nobody really cares? Why would I care who won the European championship division 2? I wouldn't walk into school and say "France beat Norway in the cricket" because i would look stupid. If I said the same about football we'd probably discuss the game, becuase it's generaly a lot more important.

I guess it comes down to demand in the long run. Personally I dont follow Second XI county cricket either but I know a lot of county members who do.

Well if you had been bothered to check carefully, you would have found this.

http://blogs.cricinfo.com/btw/ - Beyond the Test World blog

Now don't tell me that isn't updated regularly.

Your sites might be almighty, but Cricinfo in my opinion isn't doing a bad job.

How can a site that actually attacks the expansion of the game be doing a good job at covering non-test cricket. Just check out Cricket Europe (it isn't my site) and then try telling me that cricinfo does a good job at covering non-test cricket.
