India Team Discussion

It’s not easy to avoid developing an ego when you’re the sole star in a Plate team that has progressed to the semis on the back of your all-around performances. :p

He is a Tate fan though so screw him for that reason at least.

7 wins out of 7! We better lose it to South Africa this Sunday, coz this is going the 2015 way! I don't genuinely think we are like the Australia of 2007, who won the 2007 ODI WC without losing a game!

Also losing to SA on Sunday will get the "2011 nostalgists" to decipher how we lost to only South Africa in that WC and won the title. :D

So friends, Dravid's contract expires on Sunday. What do you think? Will BCCI renew it? I am 50-50 of getting him back as the coach but then again who else?

Depends on what the plan is.

If there will be a major squad overhaul then I’d keep him and see what his vision for the future is. I’ve always said that he hasn’t had the luxury of bringing in his complete vision and plan. I would only offer him a year’s extension though (in contrast to my earlier claim about wanting to see his future plan) and see how the team performs in the next T20 WC and upcoming tests before going all the way.

If they’re still keen on bringing back the old guard for the next T20 WC and are looking to retain them for one last ride in 2025 CT while trying to keep as many old figures as possible for 2026-2027 then I’d rather get a new coach who wouldn’t be as attached to the current team. I’d even try to split up the red ball and white ball coaching duties given the ridiculous amount of cricket the team plays these days.

To be honest I don’t expect Dravid or BCCI to renew the contract given how reluctant Dravid has been as a coach. Could well be proven wrong if all goes for right him though.

Or tomorrow!

I think under Dravid, the coach, this is the 1st time ever that full side has played. Also, this is the 1st ever time that we have punched above our weight and have dominated.

I think he's a good strategist, but having him as coach won't cut it for the future. I could perhaps see a role for him as Director of Cricket with separate red ball and white ball coach les reporting into him.

I certainly don't want to see VVS Laxman as coach cause he has done nothing of value , other than be in charge of the NCA(Dravid helmed it better). I see a possibility where India might look at someone like a Hesson/Fleming/Ponting for the Head Coach's role.

I certainly hope no matter what happens tomorrow, the management sit with Rohit and Virat and tell them honestly that they are moving on from them in T20's. ODI's I am not too worried if they play or not as none of them (barring Virat's fitness), will be playing 2027 WC. Test matches, they can continue playing and retire when they deem so.

Just gives me goosebumps as with Virat and Rohit's retirement whenever they take one, it will be an actual end of an era for me. Started following cricket during the Sharjah cup, have not watched recent years youngster as much as I used to with Virat and Rohit's younger days. The last 2 players. Shami I think is relatively newer (2013 ish).

Yashaswi & Dhull are the ones who can fit into the roles of Rohit & Kohli respectively. There are a few upcoming guys in the form of Jurel who can fight for the gloves. So, it Rohit and Virat walk away, it wont be a major vacuum.

One thing I'd like to see in the Indian setup is for the BCCI to come up with a clear cut direction on the format they are targeting and make it known. From 2007-2011, they clearly focused on ODI despite the growing influence of T20. As a fan, it would be good to know if we are looking at specific formats, so as to not to get disappointed.

If they do intend to focus on all formats, the need for separate teams, coaches and management is required under a specific Head of Cricket/ Director of Cricket.

The world cup win will be enough for Dravid...but India T20 performances in tournaments, especially away are not that of a juggernaut, and they have lost back to back WTC finals while being dominant in the bilateral series' prior. But the world cup win at home will pave over all those cracks.

WTC finals mean nothing. It is a shit format. They need to change it to 3 match final series. One match is not enough to judge talent in test matches. India have been the best test side by miles in the last 8 years.

Bilateral test series >> WTC ‘final’.

The T20I performances should improve with the new team in place hopefully.

India is the best in everything, why even have tournaments?
Tell me why are you always so sour? Tell me where did I mention they are best in everything?

However I have no problem in excepting India is the best team in test formats in the last 8 years. 2 back to back WTC finals, 2 back to back wins down under, tied series in England, almost won in SAF, tied series in NZ, no one has been closed to beating us on our own home. Tell me which team has a record like that?

Also other then that, where has anyone mentioned they are best at everything? Stop eating Sour patches!
