Meme team. Meme management.

Ah yes let’s use our best batter across all formats in the middle order to patch things up instead of y’know making him open and win matches potentially in his worst format.

The best thing about this is that this will allow Bangladesh to play an opening duo of… Anamul Haque and Mohammed Naim. Eugh.

I don't know whether it is a right decision but averaging 21 is just not good enough for International Cricket. Atleast 26.70 sounds better. And he has just played 2 innings at no.4 so isn't it too early to judge him at this stage?

Also I don't think either of Anamul or Naim are bad players.

The Bangladesh management don't really know what to do at this point so they are throwing out whatever they can hoping that it fixes their issue. It is true that we do not know how much better he could do if he bats in middle order. Perhaps he'll put out his best performance that he couldn't do before. But that won't change a whole lot when you look at the bigger picture and see the sheer lack of intent from the management. When you are mostly fixated on the appearing of a big team instead of actual performance, long term progress shouldn't be expected IMO :)

As always for the standard Bangladeshi cricketer Litton’s numbers are skewed heavily by the team playing him even when he was terribly out of form in the hopes that he comes good. He’s been good this year in T20Is which is what matters I suppose. His career strike-rate is also the second best in Bangladeshi history when filtered.

I don’t think he will be poor at number four, on the contrary I believe Bangladesh will be poorer for it. He’s easily the most aggressive Bangladeshi batsman in that top seven right now that can be relied on and to bat him out of position for no valid reason seems folly when they have zero alternatives for the opening slot who are anywhere near as good.

I don’t think Anamul is a bad player, he’s been one of the best in domestic cricket recently but he’s never made the step up to international cricket. With him it feels more like a mental issue than a technical one. As for Naim, I had decent hopes for him once but even then he wasn’t a modern T20 cricketer. Since then he hasn’t really done anything to change that perception or deserve selection. There is a reason why they batted Sabbir Rahman who hasn’t achieved anything of note in Bangladeshi colours either out of position as an opener because they know that the stocks are threadbare.

Currently Bangladesh are terrible in t20is, they have exactly 0 batsmen with >100 t20i runs in the last 2 years who have batted with a SR above 125.
The strange part is that they have the players to be much better, even one more consistent batsman will make such a huge difference.

Atm Afif Hossain seems to be their best t20i batsman, but Shakib and Liton are decent contributors too. The problem is that all the all the batsmen around them cant even score 20+ regularly and when they do, they eat up just as many balls. I'd go with the following batting lineup

1. :bat: Najmul Hossain : He's been making runs consistently in the BPL, and has done alright in t20is. Much more reliable than most of the other options to not get out in the first 3 overs.

2. :wkb: Liton Das : Underperfomed for his potential in t20is till now but having more reliable batsmen around him will allow him to play more aggressively like he did against India. The fact that he's striking at 124 in the last 2 years is very concerning tbh.

3. :bat: Towhid Hridoy : Honestly would be surprised if he did not get an international call up soon. Hes the 4th highest run scorer so far in the BPL and he's batting at almost 150 SR. Been around for a while too, should be ready to take the next jump.

4. :ar: Shakib Al Hasan : Been batting at 190 SR this BPL, and I dont expect him to change his style of batting for the national team either. Honestly its pretty refreshing to see him batting like this.

5. :ar: Afif Hossain : The best batsman for Bangladesh in t20is in recent times, with a functioning top order he might not to do the heavy lifting as often. Hopefully he keeps his form for longer because if the middle order starts misfiring too, it could get pretty ugly

6. :bat: Yasir Ali : Hasn't been the most consistent but he has the ability to clear the rope and has played some good cameos this season. Think he deserves atleast a few more series.

7. :wkb: Nurul Hasan : Hasnt had the best time lately but he is the VC of the team afaik and definitely not the worst option for a finisher. Would be quite weird to see him booted from the team, there's not exactly a surplus of players that can take his role.

I mean this batting lineup isnt too dissimilar from the one Bangladesh play currently but a little more clarity on roles and some more consistency from the top order bats can significantly improve things. I like that a lot of the international players are batting at high strike rates in the BPL, I think there has been a conscious effort to start picking such players. The bowling lineup is also promising and Bangladesh should be doing much better with the players they have than they are right now imo.

One thing I like about teams touring Bangladesh is the matches shown live on yt, like the ODI going on at the moment.

Agree. Makes for easier viewing when one is at work or elsewhere. All boards could actually follow this. Will enable in building up a fan following. Dont mind even if the signal is a delayed feed by about 5 min. Serves good purpose.

Sony Liv used to that for live matches. Unfortunately, they stopped it and replaced it with a live 5 min preview :bah

Why now? Thinking whether Hathurasinghe's methods have gotten something to do with this decision?
