Parthiv Patel should havebeen taken in the team instead of out of form and inexperienced Piyush Chawla as it would have given much better option to Dhoni if he needs rest. As far as Chawla's omission is concerned, we have a good spin attack in Bhajji and Ashwin supported by the likes of Sehwag, Yuvraj, Sachin, Yusuf and even Raina!

First Injury victim for India, Praveen Kumar. He would have been really good with new ball. I guess the replacement for him would be Sreesanth, he was good during NZ series but can go for a lot too. So a big blow for India anyway.

Leaving aside jokes, that is definitely a big blow. Praveen is one of the better bowlers of India when it comes to the home matches. Sreesanth is usually hammered all over the park in sub continent conditions.

Praveen Kumar is generally an awesome powerplay bowler and really good in home conditions.

He didn't open S36 as his main profession, so there really won't be any problem. Hoping to see him as a replacement. I'm actually happy to see him coming in the squad in place of Praveen Kumar.

lol, why do you feel it as a good replacement?
Praveen kumar is way way better bowler than Sreesanth.Praveen Kumar can be vital at the times of powerplay.He can swing the ball both the ways with new ball which can give us some early breakthroughs while on the other hand Sreesanth will be hammered all around the park, and once it happens he completely losses his line and length giving away easy runs.IMO someone like Tyagi would be a better choice for him.

India really don't have much choice with other 2 options being Ishant and Vinay Kumar. But certainly we need not feel all that bad, Sree really looked good in the ODI's he played recently against NZ.

I always rate Sreesanth higher than Praveen Kumar.

^^ though I myself have longed for consistent performance from Sree, but Praveen is equally good if not better. The guy might bowl only in mid 120s kph, but he is a very aggressive customer (minus the Sree's antics).

If he is unfit. yes it would be a blow to India's game plan. Munaf has established himself as 1st change bowler, leaving only Nehra as option to partner Zaheer with new ball, and we all know when Nehra has an off day, he makes Agarkar look good. Sree is also in the same mould and can leak runs on his off days.

Not a big loss though Praveen has been a very consistent ODI bowler. He has never been exceptional. He has his good days and bad days and they switch between themselves consistently. Praveen is good when it swings. When it doesnt, he is close to trash. He is bad at the end overs and has to be bowled most of his spell at the beginning. Sreesanth with his pace (and the change of it) can bowl near the death. Sreesanth has aggro which can help us or hurt us, but its a risk worth taking.

If we had lost Zaheer, I would have called it the blow of epic proportions. But Praveen? Sad but not big.

Yea i would go with Sreesanth here. Praveen is piss poor in the slog overs. Although Sreesanth can be garbage on his bad day but we can compensate for that with the part time spinners on these SC pitches. Yuvi and Pathan can do the job. Sehwag is not too bad with the ball..
