India

Sreesanth is not a bad replacement for Praveen. He has shown signs of turning over a new leaf and putting his controversy-ridden past behind him, as reflected by his 7 wickets and sound performance in the India vs New Zealand ODI series.

Sure, he's mercuric, but show me one Indian seamer apart from Zaheer who isn't. At his peak, Sreesanth can be a much more valuable asset to the team than the likes of Munaf Patel or Asish Nehra and as Sai points out, his brute pace can come quite handy in the death overs. Having said that, I would definitely have preferred Praveen to him, but with an almost bare cupboard of seamers, we have to improvise with whatever that is left.

He didn't open S36 as his main profession, so there really won't be any problem.

Lol. That was a joke, dude! I thought I made it quite obvious, perhaps not...

Those who think that Praveen's loss is no big deal, give it a second thought. He was our second best bowler in the limited versions of the game. The forms of Nehra/Ishant/Sreesanth have been topsy-turvy lately, especially in sub-continent conditions. Munaf has just been included in the side, so I can't really comment on his form. Out of the above lot, Praveen can bat a bit as well. All this adds to why he was crucial to our team.

If we had lost Zaheer, I would have called it the blow of epic proportions. But Praveen? Sad but not big.

Praveen is hihgly under-rated. He can bat a bit too, something that neither Sree nor Ishant can or would be able to do. Praveen could be handy in smashing some lusty blows.

Now if it comes to actually replacing him, it will have to be Sree as he has performed well recently.

We have Zaheer to bowl tight spells and be frugal with his economy. Munaf can do the same too. Nehra is the attacker and Sreesanth is the attacker. We have a better balance now. Imagine Zaheer, Praveen and Munaf all these three being the "bowl tight and have a low economy kind" with only Nehra as the attacker and the guy looking for wickets? Praveen's injury might be a blessing in disguise for us. I will play Zaheer, Munaf and Sreesanth in the XI (but most likely Sree's presence will mean Dhoni will give Nehra more chances). Sree attacks the batsmen while Zaheer and Munaf keeps it tight.

Praveen's injury is obviously a big blow to us. Even if Sreesanth is in his optimum form, he can't match him. And not to mention his 6+ economy rate. He'll get pwned in the SC stadiums.

Since when is 135-140 KPH brute pace :noway. If you are comparing to other Indian Seamers than I can understand but 135-140 KPH is the usual pace for a seamer these days.

That is brute pace by Indian Bowlers Standards :p
While we are talking about pace, i just remembered one incident from last ODI between NZ and Pakistan. Afridi has a hell of a shoulder. He bowled a 128 KMPH delivery with a spinners run up:eek:

And it's final now, Sreesanth replaces Praveen Kumar in the WC squad. :D

If that is the case, what's going to happen with Sreesanth's band? He recently turned to singing after not making it to the 15 who were going to represent India in the World Cup. Haha! :p

Leaving aside jokes, that is definitely a big blow. Praveen is one of the better bowlers of India when it comes to the home matches. Sreesanth is usually hammered all over the park in sub continent conditions.

R.P. Singh ?

If the World Cup was to be held in SAF, RP would have got the nod. Another problem with RP would have been the fact that he is yet another left-hander which kinda makes the pace-attack look same.

The only problem that one can see with Sreesanth is his over-aggression which may lose us a game.

RP Singh? As far as I know, his form in domestic cricket hasn't been the best. I don't really follow Indian domestic cricket but what I have heard is that he hasn't been at his best in this years Indian domestic cricket.

Praveen's loss is surely a big blow and Sreesanth is the ideal available replacement.
Praveen's loss may cost us dear, as he is a superb powerplay bowler and I don't have any expectations from Sree as he is bound to get hammered all over the park.

Zaheer, Sreesanth and Munaf should be the bowlers. Zaheer and Munaf should bowl in the Powerplay with Sreesanth being the one change bowler who bowls mostly in the non Powerplay overs (to minimize damage on his off days). Dhoni can manage Sree's economy because if Sree clicks, he can win games for India with his bowling (IF HE CLICKS!).

No one can predict Sreesanth's form. Considering that this is world cup he will surely try and give his best and hopefully he'll do well. He always goes through ups and downs. If he bowls well in one match, he doesn't bowl well in the next. So yes, there are lot of concern over Sreesanth's form.

Sreesanth will do well in the Cup. He generally performs once you give him another chance. He seems a bit like Agarkar- gets hammered for runs but does pick up wickets.

MSD will have another problem in maintaining the over-rate as Sree tends to take alot of time to go through his motions.
