cannot consider it a rip-off... the company Fremantle is promotin 'idols' in a number of countries on the same format and even have a competition called world idol

U are wrong there I am afraid. American Idol is a rip-off of the English 'Pop Idol', run by Simon Cowell who was/is very famous for being very rude and mean to the contestants. Although the initial idea was taken off Pop Idol, it has now changed to emulate The X Factor.
