Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata have finished with their auctions and it is a surprise really to see how much Kolkata spent. Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai still need to quicken up though.
No, we will discuss in groups. Also, I'd like managers to send their lists which I told via PM. Please make sure the players are Under 23, and not 23 years of age.
'Great going for us in Auction' - Prathamesh Dongre
Kolkara Krushers have managed to grab some splendid talents which includes both Indian players and Overseas champs. Prats, the league owner of Kolkata is extremely happy with the way the Auction are going. In current few rounds, Kolkata have signed some fantastic players.
Lets take a quick glance at their squad for IPL 2011.
Kolkata Krushers Squad
Aakash Chopra - Opening Batsmen ($250,000)
An opener in the classical mould, Aakash Chopra has a technique and temperament perfectly suited to occupation of the crease and seeing the shine off the leather. Those attributes came handy for him, and for Kolkata, just when they were hunting desperately for a pair of good openers.
Tirumalasetti Suman - Opening Batsmen (4100,000)
Tirumalsetti Suman is an opening batsman from Hyderabad who came up through the age groups and into his state's Ranji team. An aggressive batsman, Suman has been playing at junior level consistently from the age of 13. Predominantly a front foot player, Suman has proved to be a batting hero for his team. He has ability to help his team with cameos on top and breaking partnerships with his tidy offspin.
Kevin Pietersen - Top order batsman ($410,000)
He's tall, he's loud, he's brash ... but "KP" is also a superb batsman, capable of annexing many of huge records with ease. A supreme English man who bats extremely well and dominates bowlers is a perfect man which Kolkata wanted. He is strong and capable of scoring heavily almost in any position in lineup. He' now a part time spinner too who can take quick wickets.
Robin Uthappa - Middle ordered Batsmen ($260,000)
Tall and robust Robin Uthappa has always been attractive to watch, hard-hitting, with every shot in the book, unafraid to hit the ball in the air. At one time a wicketkeeper-batsman, Uthappa has since given up the big gloves to concentrate on batting, and now occasionally bowls mediumpace. He is one of the excellent player that Kolkata currently has.
Mohammad Kaif - Middle ordered Batsmen ($200,000)
Mohammad Kaif, who comes from the cricketing backwater of Uttar Pradesh, first came to prominence with his awesome performances in domestic cricket. Though he wasn't good at International level, he still continues to shine and shows his talent in IPL and other cricket competitions. An impressive fielder who never drops a single catch seems to prove a gem for Kolkata.
Kumar Sangakkara - Wicketkeeper ($510,000)
A perfect keeper Kolkata were searching for. Sangakkara, As a batsman has matured steadily, and the appetite for runs was best illustrated at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo in 2006. A decent captain who always cheers his boys and gave affection towards them is now eying to captain Kolkata.
Ryan Ten Doeschate - All rounder pace bowler ($100,000)
Ryan ten Doeschate has been the big name in Dutch cricket since announcing himself in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup. He broke David Hemp's record for the competition's highest score by hitting an unbeaten 259 and finished with the extraordinary average of 228.66 including four successive centuries. He also finished as the Netherlands' leading wicket taker in the tournament. He is the best player owned by any Associate country who bowls fabulously and is hard hitting batsmen.
Graeme Swann - All rounder spin bowler ($360,000)
Kolkata now has a top class spin bowling department with Swanny joining Harbhajan. A wonderful off spinner who contributed heavy runs if essential and is an excellent pick for Kolkata. Many of us may confuse about his all round skills but in T20s, he is definitely a perfect combinatorial all rounder with great talent.
Ramesh Powar - All rounder spin bowler ($100,000)
A stocky offspinner who is more than handy with the bat, Ramesh Powar has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket for the last four seasons, and was crucial to Mumbai's Ranji Trophy success in the 2002-03 season. His 20 wickets with his flighted stuff was useful enough, but even more crucial was the runs he contributed. He never batted higher than No. 7 - sometimes going in as low as No. 10 - but ended up with the second-highest aggregate for Mumbai in the tournament, scoring 418 runs at more than 46, with most of those runs coming when his team was in strife.
Shanthakumaran Sreesanth - Pace Bowler ($300,000)
A strong and aggressive player who bowls rapidly and is mostly economical in matches. He has been brilliant in T20s, ODIs as well as Tests. He is a leading wicket-taker in Duleep Trophy and the only one to take hattrick in that. A perfect pace combination with Zaheer makes this man a magnificent deal for Krushers.
Zaheer Khan - Pace Bowler ($400,000)
He is an Indian fast bowler with all the traits that made the Pakistani fast bowlers a phenomenon. He swings the new ball and reverses the old, he does well on flat subcontinent pitches and relishes the helpful ones away, and he controls all three balls well - SG, Duke and Kookaburra. Fiery fast bowling supported by a little batting efforts makes this man a magnificent deal for Kolkata.
Harbhajan Singh - Spin Bowler ($480,000)
A player of passion, with talent to match, Harbhajan Singh is India's most successful offspin bowler. Purists might mutter about a lack of loop and flight, but he is very much a product of his times where short boundaries, heavy bats and shorter forms afford little latitude to slow bowlers. Bowling with a windmilling, whiplash action, remodelled after he was reported for throwing, he deals by varying his length and his pace, and can turn it the other way too. His deadliest ball, however, is the one that climbs wickedly from a length, forcing a hurried jab. In recent matches, he has been spectacular with bat low down the order.
