World Cup 2007
India in England
Special Edition 3
Battle Of The Champions- Edition 3, India's WC Squad
Hello and warm welcome once again to the show, Battle of the Champions' - Third edition of this World Cup. In this edition we are going to have a brief walkthrough at the Indian team picked for the forthcoming World Cup in England. It's to be noted that selection panel members include Kris Srikkanth ( chairman ), Yashpal Sharma, Narendra Hirwani, Surendra Bhave and Raja Venkat. Right, let us now have a look on the players selected for this major tournament.
Indian Team - Batsmen List
" Someone from this list has to dominate if India has to finish on the high side! " - Srikkanth, the Chairman of Selectors

MS Dhoni ( Captain/Wicket Keeper ) - With Dhoni entering as Indian side captain in recent CB series, there is nothing special to quote about him except for that fact that he used to drink litres & litres of milk per day. All which Indian team needs from this man is, the aggressive tactics in captaincy as well as in his own batting! It is to be noted that, Dhoni's fast scoring runs in semi finals of Champions Trophy Vs Pakistan helped the team to progress to the finals despite Tendulkar's heroics in other end.
V. Sehwag ( Vice Captain ) - With the general saying, " When Sehwag is on song, none can stop him! ", it is going to be very crucial for Sehwag to play a dominating role and overpower the opponent. As an opening batsmen and a part time bowler, he has already raised the bars of expectations among everyone including the experts like Ian Chappell.
S. Tendulkar - After being a dominating World Cup performer (1996/2003 & to some extent-1999 ), Tendulkar is obviously expected to dominate once again and play an anchoring role in this World Cup. With Tendulkar and Sehwag expected to open for India, the start which these two are going to give does matter a lots.
G. Gambhir - With fitness being a big constraint for Gambhir, he has been given a green signal luckily. As this is going to be the first world cup for Gambhir, it's going to be a great opportunity for this man to utilize & impress the selectors.
Yuvraj Singh - Yet another power hitter! The middle order badly needs Yuvi's consistency and power hittings when comes to the thrilling finishes. With recent century in Australia, the confidence must have got enhanced to a good extent for this player to outsmart the opponents under pressure.
Suresh Raina - Another World Cup debutant & another power hitter! Undoubtedly, Raina is equipped with many talents ( batting, bowling & fielding ), but how far he is going to cope up and meet the selector's expectations? One has to wait & see. Good opportunity for Raina to prove his skills in an overseas condition and as well as in the World Cup.
Can these players give us a Surprise?
" You never know, either Kohli or Jadeja or Karthik might produce a match winning innings in this World Cup. They are talented without any doubts & deserve a go! " - Srikkanth, the Chairman of Selectors

R. Jadeja - A very handful allrounder! It is definitely a big ask to have expectations on Jadeja, but the selectors believe that his inclusion in team XI will give the 5th bowling option along with the deep batting line up.
Virat Kohli - The aggressive captain who helped India to grab the trophy in U19 level! Kohli's talented batting skills might enhance the middle order, but he really needs a lot of luck to get into Team XI and play his first WC match to prove his skills.
Dinesh Karthik - A backup wicket keeper and a talented batsman/fieldsman. Unless Dhoni is going to get injured, it is hard for Karthik to make his way into the team XI. Some might think that Karthik's selection could be due to the politics of Srikkanth but, his recent good form in IPL and Domestic circuit has helped his selection ahead of Rohit Sharma & Yusuf Pathan.
Indian Team - Bowling List.
" Our bowling department haven't looked great, but this time we believe that we can make a big impact! " - Srikkanth, the Chairman of Selectors

Zaheer Khan - This player needs to be in his prime form to lead from the front in bowling department. Without any doubts, Zaheer is one of the best experienced bowlers at present and he is expected to roar hard against the opponents with the new ball and in end overs.
Ishant Sharma - Ishant is definitely a talented player but needs a right guidance and support in another end. With Zaheer and Ishant expected to open the bowling, there is really a huge dependency with these two in removing their nightmares soon.
Praveen Kumar - Yet another World Cup debutant! Praveen Kumar is famous for his swinging capabilities & with England conditions, he is expected to throw some surprises. Well, hopefully he does.
A. Nehra - On of the experienced bowlers who has found his rhythm back. With Zaheer & Ishant to be the certain openers, it is going to be a tough fight between Praveen & Nehra to get into the team XI.
R. Ashwin & Harbhajan Singh - Selected to be the spin twins of our Indian side. In particular, Ashwin's selection is really a surprise to everyone. After giving some consistent performances in domestic circuit, Ashwin has been given a nod in this world cup. But with Harbhajan likely to be the strike bowler in spin department, it is going to be tough for Ashwin to get into the side in England conditions.
