Story India's Journey To World Cup 2011 [Commonwealth Bank Series 2010]

Was sad to see india fail against pakistan but Pakiz did really well to come from two down to win the series. Sehwag was at his best in the first two games

I'm thinking to bring back this story. The story line is pretty much build up, I just need to do a few updates before starting with the world cup, which wont take much time. I'd be using BLC07 for this, which is a pretty good game. :)

The last tour before the world cup....

Dhoni?s press conference: We're Ready - Said Dhoni! It's about time we win a world cup, it's been 27 years since we last won the world cup and since then we've made it to the finals just once and that was in the 2003 World Cup. We've got great talent in our country and selecting a squad of 18 players, those 18 players who can bring the world cup back home shouldn't be a difficult task. Though, we're still to play a tournament before world cup i.e. a triangular series between India, West Indies and Sri Lanka. We've decided that we're gonna play a young squad in this series and see who among these young players deserves a chance in the WC side.

Dhoni held on to his words and the final team for the tri-series was selected a few days later from the press conference; it was full of young players. Though, this move of playing a squad full of inexperienced players in the last tournament before the world cup was criticized by the Indian media, Dhoni made it clear that we're making sure that by playing in this tournament, none of the senior players get injured and hence they are rested. Indian squad looked like this,

Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Parthiv Patel (WK), Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwara Pujara, Amit Mishra, Rahul Sharma, Praveen Kumar and Umesh Yadav.

Sri Lanka though, thought in a different way, they liked the idea of playing a side which has members who are most likely going to play in the World Cup better. Their side looked like this,

Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Dinesh Chandimal, Rangana Herath, Prasanna Jayawardene (WK), Chamara Kapugedera, Suranga Lakmar, Lasith Malinga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chanaka Welegedara, Upul Tharanga, Angelo Mathews and Nuwan Kulasekara.

West Indies had some serious concerns about their side. It's not like they didn't had the players who can win them the world cup, it was about the consistency of those players and their commitment towards their country. However, the squad they selected for this particular tournament looked pretty strong.

Chris Gayle (C), Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Devendra Bishoo, Ramnarsh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Kemar Roach, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Smith, Marlon Samuels, Denesh Ramdin (WK), Ravi Rampaul and Darren Sammy.

Shockingly, Darren Sammy was removed from the captaincy and that's shocking simply because he had been captaining this side for over a year now and just before the world cup, an experienced player like Chris Gayle, who has had his problems with the WICB board was made the captain. It can be said that this might just prove to be a winning move but then who knows, it can backfire too.

The tournament takes place in Sri lanka. Who among these three teams will win the tournament? Fair to say, all of these three teams will be hoping to go into the world cup in a winning mood. To know who won this all important tournament before the WC, wait for the next update. :)

PS : The readers who are new to this story can have a look at the index and get an idea about the storyline. :)
