India's tour of Australia - January 2016

Regarding the recent debate on Indian batsmen being selfish for their milestones rather than team victory may seem a subtle point but in-depth its a huge thing, infact the root cause of any team's debacle against teams like Australia and South Africa or any other team on a flying high.

I won't only say this to Indian batsmen, It is infact common here in Sub-continent where players put more weight on personal performances than the overall team victory and that is because of our selection system and one can't put extra blame on the players. A new Pakistani batsman will be more concerned about his position first than the team victory because he knows that if he didn't perform well in two consecutive ODIS he will be thrown out, Hell We have a history of throwing out emerging and some very high quality players little examples are Basit Ali, Yasir Hameed, Ali Naqvi, Shahid Saeed, Shahid Nazir and a lot of others so what is the guarantee of a brand new player? How would he survive?

Indian system is still lot better than here, They don't change their captain for years, Their players ins and out must be lot lot better than ours, then why they are more concerned about records? It may well be the reason because of their glamorus B Industry and over-hyped media stuff plus a lot of money is involved i.e. Extra Commercialization, Extra Attention etc.. Indian media and Commentators has always given more importance to individuals and their records than the team itself as a whole unit and this view has translated into their fans, and that is why against big teams It may be quite entrenched in the players mindset that scoring a ton or double ton is more than the team victory.

Even players like Dravid and Tendulkar weren't save from this as I remember when Tendulkar was about to reach a triple ton/double ton (Not remember the figure exactly) and Dravid called for declaration, So on the same evening Tendulkar did the press conference claiming that Dravid didn't want that his record should be broken....

It is unfortunate and pity for subcontinent teams but it is not an ir-recoverable loss. Adopt the big teams system culture and you would be right up there.

Coming specifically to current Indian losses to Australia, The selfishness isn't the whole thing, The major onus here is on power bowling and captain unable to leading from the front with the bat.. In my view

What debate? When did this happen?

I am pleased with Rishi Dhawan's performance ... been calling for him to be part of the side ahead of Binny for 2 years now, and its good to see him show some common sense. With every bowler going fot 6+, 7+ and 8+, its good to see him keep the economy under 6 in both his games. Yes on pitches like this wickets will be hard to come, so keeping things tight, is not a poor alternative. He has shown cricketing intelligence, mixed his pace up and been effective.

If he can perform here against this batting, he can do fine in most places.

Yeah its an idiotic claim to begin with, so no wonder it was denied. One slow innings from Shikhar playing himself back to form, and suddenly Indian batsmen are selfish. And even Shikhar Dhawan got out trying to up the pace and make up for the slow start, he was swining his bat left and right when he got out.

That too from Maxwell who was getting flayed by his coach before this series for just throwing is wicket away.

I wonder which shows greater commitment, grind it out in the middle score the hard runs, or walk in play a senseless shot and get out.

Guess the debate will be while aus were setting a target they lost more wickets then india but scored 30-40 runs more. Ofcourse could be that india just bowled worse then aus but that's where the debate will come from.

In a way Indian batsmen are selfish, they have been damn inconsiderate to the Australian bowler the whole tour, have scored nearly 300 runs in all the games they have played :D

Yes the Indian bowlers have been rubbish, but damn those selfish India batsmen only thinking of themselves and hammering Aus bowlers around :D

People forget that India's template for ODIs has always been keep wickets in hand till the final overs. Aus is more like go for it all the time. Even in the WC or CT Ind were steady at best at start, and only went for it at the end. Its a template that doesn't work as well anymore as the extra fielder is allowed outside the 30 yards in the final 10 overs. India trying to make do with the same template.

I think Rishi Dhawan needs to be retained in the T20 line up. I don't expect much joy of the Ind T20 side in Aus, as India just don't have the bowling tools for those pitches. However once the overseas leg finishes, with the recalling of Yuvi the middle order looks covered. Add Rishi Dhawan to the mix, and India could then make do with just one more seamer. I focus on T20 as India next play Asia CUp which is T20 and then World T20. I am not a big fan of T20, but India are playing and I want them to do well in whatever format they play. I would go with this line up -

Rahane
Rohit
Kohli
Yuvi
Raina
MSD
Jadeja
Rishi Dhawan
Ashwin
Harbhajan/Mishra
Nehra

I would actually quite fancy this line up. Even Harbhajan is capable of hitting a few in the final overs.

Oh no RO! He was looking fabulous and gloved a wide delivery, Needed to play Rahane's Innings too.
