India's tour of Australia - January 2016

Economy rate of 6.34 is good for T20I. Even though he hasn't picked much wickets, I think selectors picked him in the squad thinking of his economical rate. And he can swing the bat which would add few benefits for his selection.

Imo, Wickets ain't important than saving runs. Just hold the batsman from one end and don't let him pocket bunch of quick runs, then he'd easily give away his wicket to any kind of deliveries except too loose ones. Harbhajan is a very fine T20 player, if he bowls all 4 overs, he ensures at least one wicket without conceding so many runs. In third T20 wc, Dhoni used to make him open and bowl all his 4 overs in one spell, such decisions have certainly gone against him. But Harbhajan has improved a lot since then. He can bowl efficient in middle overs too and also promises a wicket at important stages.

And yea, he can swing the bat to get a lot of free runs as I should say that because he's a bowler and yet he becomes trustworthy whilst batting.

Yeah. Exactly. That's what I meant. He is a good player who doesn't give out runs easily and handy with bat. So, I am looking forward to seeing him in playing IX.

I was just going through the stats of Vijay Hazare trophy after it finished today, and I was quite impressed to see Rishi Dhawan (who is part of the ODI squad to Aus), after 7 innings from 7 games, had an avg of 100.66 with a S/R of 102.72

He also had 9 wickets in the tournament to go with those runs.

We have been discussing about Vijay Hazare trophy in the domestic thread all along. Even though Rishi has performed well, main reason for that high average is because he was not out for most number of games because he comes in to bat at 5 or 6.

I know him being n.o. must be a factor, however the point remains, an avg of 100, whether through n.o. or otherwise is no joke, that too at a S/R of over 100. There are other batsmen too you know who bat at the postions he does, and I don't see any of them averaging 100. They too are allowed to remain n.o., and boost the avg, but they don't. Also as the S/R shows its not like he is playing selfishly and just trying to remain n.o. to help his avg. He is going for the shots, scoring fast, and still averaging 100.

302 runs in 7 innings with a century and a half century is actually very impressive for someone batting at his position (5-6).
Anyways, his scores were 117*, 67*, 31, 6* (took 3 wkts), 41 (took 3 wkts), 9. Very consistent.

Glad to see Shami back into the side. Its trio of Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma and Bhuvi Kumar struggled aganist the Proteas, and Shami does bring some balance to the pace attack. The trio had a lack of control, and in Shami's absence, India have struggled to find a settled pace attack. They could"ve brought in Kedar Jadhav instead of Pandey, but we'll see what he can produce.
It's good to see Yuvraj and Nehra in the team. Yuvraj has done really well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Nehra's bowling in the IPL has been great. Overall, the T20 squad looks strong for the most part:)

I have a feeling India will do well in one of the formats this tour. Most likely it could be the T20's, because it will be tough to sustain our performance against Australia in Australia in ODI. On our last tour, we struggled to beat Australia even in a single ODI game (we couldn't beat them at all; but we looked like champions against the rest).

This time though, we'll put up a decent fight. The team looks fresh, new faces, who'd want to perform well. Takes me back to 2007 ,when the team was re-jigged just before the T20 World Cup and the results were awesome then.

Australia is looking a bit vulnerable with a few injuries and retirements. Let's see what the Indians can do here.

Uncapped Paris and Boland in Australia's ODI squad | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Australia ODI squad David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steven Smith (capt), Shaun Marsh, George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade (wk), James Faulkner, Kane Richardson, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland, Joel Paris.

Australia have just announced their squad. Lots of surprises in the squad especially surprised not to see Chris Lynn. I thought with his current form, he would walk in the squad if not the final 11. Also no Watson in the squad which is a bit strange since he was such a regular in the squad. Good to see Joel Paris in the squad, he looked like a really handy bowler since the first time I saw him but it is also surprising to see him make the squad ahead of Jason Behrendorff.
