AUS crying out for quality experienced batsmen @ test level. India have talented but unproven batsmen @ test level. Big difference.

AUS have alot of talented young bats as well in Khawaja, Hughes, Marsh, Ferguson, Cosgrove, but have the same unproven achillies heel tag.

My point was India for a # 1 team is weak in its bench strenght when certain established players are out as. A problem that recent dominant # 1's like Australia certainly didn't have or need to prove to anyone.

Showing that you have quality depth is a key part of any teams rise/progression as the best team in the world.

We have a hell lot of bench strength. Judging by one match you cannot say we lack bench strength. If we lack it we would not have sent our almost 2nd string in test. Yes they did not perform this test so far that too but this series and indias future and build after wc has just started.

Its going to be interesting days play as Shiv has an avg of 71 against India and he has faced 100 overs of harbhajan and has not got out even once

agree wit hwar about India's bench strength. the BCCI think its better than it really is, but lets not take anything away from Edwards and co. Imagine if Roach was playing too. btw why is he not playing? being rested?

West Indies can still get out for a very cheap score. I don't see them overhauling India's mediocre total. Mishra and Bhajjia must be licking their lips.

Indeed, when you let through 150 odd for the 7th wicket, you know you missed a chance to bowl them out a lot sooner. That's pretty much what Edwards said in the presser. There was also a lot of mention of spin by all and sundry, but while Bishoo did get some prize scalps, the first and last steps for the West Indies involved the pacemen cleaning up some quick wickets. The Windies will want to get themselves going against India's quicks so that against the quality spinners, the playing field might be levelled.

No im not judging based on this match. Im judging from over the past 2-3 years, the back-up players (especially in the bowling) who have gotten a chance to represent India when senior star players have gone missing for various reasons.

Saying India have a "hell of a lot of bench strength" (quality proven ones as well) is a highly delusional statement.

I haven't seen Aussie sending such a depleted side to any series. Then again, that was some era when they have atleast 6 world class bowlers to choose from and 10 batsman

The only series in can between 95-2006/07 when AUS played with close to 4 key players missing. Was in in India 98, when the first choice pace attack of Mcgrath, Gillespie, Fleming was missing.

They had other series when around 2 of so key players were missing, but the backups generally always stood up impressively in the absence of the main players.

Didn't expect Praveen to do so well, with his pace I thought he would be dealt with easily but he has bowled really well. And yeah Harbhajan can't get more helpful conditions than this, he hasn't bowled as well as he would've liked, he needs to pick up few wickets.

Its too early to say but Praveen, Sreesanth/Ishant, Zak will be perfect trio to bowl in England. Harbhajan as the spinner and we have good bowling lineup
