NEW ZEALAND INNINGS

New Zealand have started well here with both openers still at the crease after the first half of the innings and they will be eyeing a big score for themselves and the team. However can they get a big enough score?

26th Over - Bowled by Mascarenhas:
0,0,1,0,0,0
BM: 47 (85)
LV: 46 (71)
99/0

27th Over ? Bowled by Panesar:
0,0,0,0,1,4
BM: 48 (90)
LV: 50 (72)
104/0

Panesar has had a bad spell thus far and he is hit for another boundary by Vincent who picks the length magnificently and cuts powerfully for four to bring up the century partnership between himself and wicket keeper McCullum. They have really batted well and put New Zealand in a great position. Not only this but Lou Vincent also brings up his own half century off 72 balls which isn?t bad at all but he will want to be their at the end.

28th Over ? Bowled by Mascarenhas:
0,0,0,0,0,0
BM: 48 (96)
LV: 50 (72)
104/0

29th Over ? Bowled by Panesar:
1,0,0,0,1,1
BM: 49 (100)
LV: 52 (74)
107/0

30th Over ? Bowled by Mascarenhas:
4,0,0,0,2,1
BM: 49 (100)
LV: 59 (80)
114/0

Vincent scores the first boundary off of Mascarenhas and it is a brutal pull off of a ball which was only marginally short. Vincent is really not missing anything though and he is murdering the ball to all parts out hear at the moment.

31st Over ? Bowled by Collingwood:
0,0,4,4,0,0
BM: 49 (100)
LV: 67 (86)
122/0

Vincent is on fire and as Colly introduces himself to the action he gets slaughtered by Vincent who is able to hit two brilliant boundaries consecutively. The first is a great dab which showed fine technique and the second was just as a majestic cover drive which raced away. Vincent is unstoppable!

32nd Over ? Bowled by Panesar:
1,0,4,0,0,0
BM: 50 (101)
LV: 71 (91)
127/0

McCullum has the strike for the first time in an age and gets a single off the first ball faced to move him to 50 to join his opening partner at the milestone. Vincent then carries on his explosion with another boundary through point with another powerful cut which would have probably broken the fielders hand if it was anywhere near.

BMcCullum501stODIcopy.jpg

33rd Over ? Bowled by Collingwood:
0,0,0,0,0,0
BM: 50 (107)
LV: 71 (91)
127/0

34th Over ? Bowled by Panesar:
1lb,0,0,0,0,1
BM: 51 (112)
LV: 71 (92)
129/0

35th Over ? Bowled by Collingwood:
0,0,0,1,1,0
BM: 52 (117)
LV: 72 (93)
131/0

36th Over ? Bowled by Panesar:
4,1lb,1,1,0,1
BM: 54 (120)
LV: 77 (96)
139/0

Vincent gets another boundary with another late dab off Panesar which trickles down to the third man boundary making Colly look more and more frustrated out there on the field. At the minute he seems hopeless at trying to contain this I?m afraid.

37th Over ? Bowled by Collingwood:
1,0,0,1,0,0
BM: 55 (123)
LV: 78 (99)
141/0

38th Over ? Bowled by Harmison:
0,1,0,0,0,1
BM: 56 (127)
LV: 79 (101)
143/0

39th Over ? Bowled by Collingwood:
1,0,1,0,0,4
BM: 61 (131)
LV: 80 (103)
149/0

Collingwood bowls a yorker at McCullum but he is able to pick it up early and whips it away with a wristy shot fine down to the long leg boundary for McCullum?s first boundary in a long while. He seems to be struggling a bit out there and his strike rate has lowered quite significantly.

40th Over ? Bowled by Harmison:
4,1,0,0,0,1
BM: 62 (135)
LV: 85 (105)
155/0

Vincent goes massive down the ground and it just bounces inside the rope preventing him from getting his first and his team?s first maximum of the innings but it does bring up an unbelievable achievement in a 150 partnership between Brendan McCullum and Lou Vincent. They have played superbly and deserve the position they are in and their team are in.

150-McCullumVincent1stODIcopy.jpg

41st Over ? Bowled by Collingwood:
0,0wd,4,1,0,W,0
BM: 67 (138)
SF: 0 (1)
161/1

Finally England get a breakthrough and Collingwood has got Vincent caught on the boundary by James Anderson. McCullum had just hit a boundary over the covers but Colly was determined to get his man and got Vincent the key man for the Kiwis. However it had been a fine knock and there was still plenty of batting to come starting with Fleming the ex-Kiwi captain.

LVincentcopy-1.jpg
SFlemingcopy-1.jpg

Lou Vincent struck 15 fours in his 85 all around the park. You can see this in the wagon wheel below. His favourite area was the off side and in front of square. He played some great shots here.

VincentWagonWheel-1stODIcopy.jpg

42nd Over ? Bowled by Flintoff:
0,1,1,4,0,1
BM: 73 (143)
SF: 1 (2)
168/1

McCullum now has to take the lead role and he does exactly that by getting a boundary off of a full one on his legs which he whips away. New Zealand is increasing the rate of scoring here with seven off the over.

43rd Over ? Bowled by Collingwood:
0,1,4,1,1,1
BM: 75 (146)
SF: 7 (5)
176/1

Stephen Fleming now gets in on the action and gets his first boundary with a technical dab down to third man which beats the man on the boundary. Eight off that over and New Zealand will want a lot more in the last seven overs. Fleming has the capabilities to hurt England they need his wicket and quickly!

44th Over ? Bowled by Flintoff:
0,6,4,0,0,0
BM: 75 (146)
SF: 17 (11)
186/1

Just as I was saying Fleming can hurt England and he hits a maximum and a boundary consecutively off Flintoff to add ten to the total. The boundary is aerial over mid wicket for one bounce for and he hooks Flintoff out of the ground with a strong shot. Fleming looks dangerous here.

45th Over ? Bowled by Anderson:
0,4,0,0,0,1+W
BM: 80 (152)
RT: 0 (0)
191/2

Anderson is into the attack replacing the captain and he is hit for four by McCullum through the covers off a slower ball but good thinking by the Lancashire fast bowler. In the last ball of the over the two get a single and then take on a risky second but Fleming can?t make it back. England have another wicket and danger man Fleming is out for seventeen. However Ross Taylor caused England problems in the Twenty20 series and he is next out.

SFlemingcopy.jpg
RTaylorcopy.jpg

46th Over ? Bowled by Flintoff:
0,6,1,0,0,1
BM: 81 (155)
RT: 7 (3)
199/2

Ross Taylor immediately shows his intentions and off the second ball he faces he smacks Freddie Flintoff out of the ground down the ground and nearly knocks out the fans watching in the crowd it was hit that powerfully. A couple of singles are also picked up off the over.

47th Over ? Bowled by Anderson:
0,0,0,0,1,0
BM: 82 (160)
RT: 7 (4)
200/2

48th Over ? Bowled by Flintoff:
1,4,1,0,0,1
BM: 84 (164)
RT: 12 (6)
207/2

As we reach the last few overs of this innings New Zealand seem to be swinging at every ball but Flintoff limits the Kiwis to seven which is a good effort. The boundary in the over comes from Taylor who cuts behind square with immense power and it races away. What can New Zealand reach as a total here?

49th Over ? Bowled by Anderson:
1,6,1,1,0,0
BM: 86 (166)
RT: 19 (10)
216/2

Another expensive over and Anderson is finished for today. Taylor whacks Anderson over cow corner for six more and he looks unstoppable and carrying on from the last Twenty20 game. England need to stop him somehow because he could cause serious destruction in the last over.

50th Over ? Bowled by Flintoff:
4,1,6,0,0,4
BM: 91 (168)
RT: 29 (14)
231/2

New Zealand finish with a real flurry and get fifteen off the final over to set England a total of 232 to win. McCullum chips over cow corner for a boundary off the first ball and then gets a single getting Taylor on strike. He immediately disposes of Flintoff over the covers for his third six and then the last ball of the innings hooks for four ending Flintoff?s poor day so far. Taylor was exciting in them last few overs but McCullum was there for the whole fifty overs and played a solid knock.

McCullumWagonWheel-1stODIcopy.jpg

New Zealand will be very happy with their innings and the four batsman played well that were required. Particularly, McCullum and Vincent who had a massive opening partnership and then Ross Taylor caused some havoc in the last overs of the innings. Brendan McCullum may be slightly annoyed at his low strike rate however.

NZ1stODI50OversBattingcopy.jpg

As for the England bowlers none of them were particularly great. In fact the only wicket taken was by captain Paul Collingwood. However James Anderson and Dimi Mascarenhas deserve a special mention as they restricted the batsmen as much as possible and had very good economy rates.

ENGBowling1stODI50Overscopy.jpg

So England require 232 runs to win at 4.64 runs per over but can they get this ODI series off to a flyer or have the Kiwis got enough runs on the board to take the first match? Find out soon!

lol, playing 150+ deliveries patiently make me to think that he has forgotten that it's an ODI. :p Anyways, some good overs in the end makes it to look like a defendable target. :)

Well you may only have got 2 wickets but its still a reasonable total to chase! Good luck in your reply! :)

That is not a good total by the Kiwis considering they had so many wickets in hand. That knock by McCullum was very unlike him. Normally the balls and the score would have been the other way around :p

Very good update mate, your attention to detail is commendable and your hard work really shows in some breathtaking graphics and writting. Do you work for Sky Sports? Because some of those graphics deserve to be on TV :thumbs

Thanks Tom i try to make my stories as detailed as possible but unfotunately it means updates are less often

The Kiwis should have been looking at round about 250+.
England should keep their heads cool at the top of the order and not lose early wickets.

Great works DX. This is a great story! :)
Reps for you. ;)

Thats a low score by the Kiwis according to the wickets lost. Slow inning by Mccullum. Was he playing a test match??

awesome awesome attention to detail i agree with Tom great work

England did well i would say and if KP fires 230 should be very gettable

well done McCullum and Vincent but i just feel they did not get enough

ENGLAND INNINGS

England has a very good chance in this match if they can keep wickets in hand and play sensibly. They are chasing 232 runs to win at a rate of 4.64 runs per over. The two opening batsmen for England will be two players who have never opened together. Alastair Cook and Ian Bell but can they get the innings off to a flier?

New Zealand has an early breakthrough and Ian Bell is the man to go. He goes for a straight drive but the pace gets him and he edges straight behind to Kiwi wicket keeper Brendon McCullum. New Zealand looks happy and has the belief that they can defend their total. The new man for England is the highly dangerous Kevin Pietersen.

6th Over ? Bowled by Mills:

9th Over ? Bowled by Bond:

10th Over ? Bowled by Mills:
0,2,2,6,0,2
AC: 19 (32)
KP: 12 (8)
37/1

Kevin Pietersen attacks Mills immediately and looks in fine touch as he hits twelve off the over including a big six over mid wicket with ease. This is not a good sign for the New Zealand bowlers but England fans won?t mind a lot will they?

11th Over ? Bowled by Bond:
2,0,W,0,0,2
KP: 12 (8)
OS: 2 (3)
41/2

Bond makes his and New Zealand?s second breakthrough this time getting Alastair Cook the other opener out in the exact same way edging behind to McCullum who has two catches. Next in for England is a man with a bit of pressure on him Owais Shah. Can he deliver for England and take them nearer to the total needed?

ACookcopy-1.jpg
OShahcopy.jpg

12th Over ? Bowled by Mills:
0,1,2,1,2,2
KP: 17 (12)
OS: 5 (5)
49/2

13th Over ? Bowled by Bond:
0,0,0,0,0,0
KP: 17 (12)

49/2

14th Over ? Bowled by Vettori:
4,0,0,4,0,4
KP: 29 (18)
OS: 5 (11)
61/2

Pietersen signals his intention to take on Vettori in the powerplay overs immediately. He hits three boundaries off the over to give England a much needed boost. The first is an immaculate straight drive which races away while the second and third are whipped off the legs through the leg side powerfully for boundaries. Vettori does not look happy with himself and his bowling.

15th Over ? Bowled by Bond:
0,0,2,0,1,4nb,2
KP: 35 (19)
OS: 8 (16)
71/2

Bond is now expensive as he lets ten go off his over including another fine straight drive form KP this time off of a no ball meaning there was relatively little risk in the shot. Pietersen is firing along and is now onto 35 off just nineteen deliveries. This is exciting stuff for this packed crowd.

16th Over ? Bowled by Vettori:
0,0,0,0,4,0
KP: 35 (19)
OS: 12 (22)
75/2

Owais Shah now gets into the act and hits his first boundary off of Daniel Vettori. It is a fine shot down the ground just chipped over the infield and races away to the rope. Shah and Pietersen are looking good for England at the moment.

17th Over ? Bowled by Bond:
0,0,0,0,2,0
KP: 37 (25)
OS: 12 (22)
77/2

18th Over ? Bowled by Vettori:
0,4,0,4,0,0
KP: 37 (25)
OS: 20 (28)
85/2

Shah now takes on Vettori and it is clear that England have targeted the spinner as a man they must score runs off. Shah hits two class boundaries. The first is a wristy shot down to the long leg boundary which is typical of Shah and the second is a little less fine but results in another boundary anyway.

19th Over ? Bowled by Mills:
0,4,0wd,1,0wd,4,0nb,1,0
KP: 42 (29)
OS: 25 (30)
98/2

Thirteen come off Mills? return over and Vettori cannot seem to stop the runs flowing. Pietersen firstly hits a beautiful straight drive beating long on and Shah plays fine and gets another four. These two have played really well and they bring up the fifty partnership in quick time. This is great to watch and Shah has impressed while under a bit of pressure.

50-KPandShahcopy.jpg

20th Over ? Bowled by Vettori:
0,4,0,2,0,2
KP: 42 (29)
OS: 33 (36)
106/2

England bring up the three figures with Shah getting eight off of Vettori including an expansive square drive which rockets away to the boundary and crashes into the advertising boards behind the ropes. Shah is catching Pietersen here and he is showing why he is such a great player at county level.

21st Over ? Bowled by Mills:
0,1,2,0,0,1
KP: 43 (31)
OS: 36 (40)
110/2

22nd Over ? Bowled by Vettori:
0,0,0,0,0,2
KP: 43 (31)
OS: 38 (46)
112/2

23rd Over ? Bowled by Mills:
0,0,0,1,0,0
KP: 44 (35)
OS: 38 (48)
113/2

24th Over ? Bowled by Vettori:
4,0,0,0,1,0
KP: 49 (40)
OS: 38 (49)
118/2

Pietersen hits another boundary off a helpless Daniel Vettori and it is a fine shot powerfully of his legs taking him to just one away from a half century and Pietersen looks in outstanding form and has carried on from the Twenty20 matches.

25th Over ? Bowled by Mills:
0,1,0wd,0,0,2,2
KP: 50 (41)
OS: 42 (53)
124/2

Pietersen gets a single down to fine leg and brings up an explosive half century off just 42 balls including six fours and a solitary six as well. The fans in the ground give him a much deserved round of applause as England reach the half way stage in their innings.

KPietersen501stODIcopy.jpg

England will be delighted with the position they have managed to get themselves in after losing two early wickets to Shane Bond. You would have to say Kevin Pietersen has raced along but Owais Shah has looked in fine form as well. There is also a lot of batting to come including Collingwood, Flintoff, Mustard and Mascarenhas as well. England will be confident for sure.

ENG1stODI25OversBattingcopy.jpg

As for the Kiwi bowlers the only man of the three used that can be happy is Bond who has picked up both the wickets of Cook and Bell caught behind. In his nine overs his economy has also been good. However Vettori has been targeted and off of just 6 overs his economy is 6.50. Mills has also struggled and off his full ten overs he hasn?t picked up a wicket and his economy is also over six.

NZBowling1stODI25Overscopy.jpg

So England have started well and they require 108 more runs in 25 overs at a run rate of 4.32 but can the three lions defeat the Kiwis in this opening One Dayer?

KP and Shah are going really well. England should win this match now.

Great update mate as usual, a top class effort :clap

Easy target if KP stays but we all knowhow quickly england can collaps...

awesome update KUTGW order

Great bowling from KP, and Shah, a very good partnership going on, Nice story, keep up the good work

Vettori has been disappointing and Kiwis should have rotated the bowlers in some other better way! It seems, England will reach this quite convincingly! Lets see. :)

Very detailed presentation.. Terrific going with the story! :hpraise
