Interview with Surrey Youngster, Stuart Meaker - Interview Posted.

Seen him on Sky a couple of times, got a fair bit of pace about him.

Ye i like the look of him. Could be knocking on selectors door in another year or so if he keeps improving.

Yeah, I'd want him to have another county season at least, but with work in the performance squad and other winter work, he could be a good prospect.

Our seam department depths are ever increasing.

Also nice to note, Surrey have one bowler currently in the England squad taking the new ball, with two bowlers also in the Lions Squad. Oh yeah, and Surrey also have KP in their ranks (not that he will ever really play). Nice change from the barren years of having none.

Meaker, is supposedly one of the quickest bowlers in the domestic circuit and it will get him by at the domestic level (especially Div 2) but he will probably need to add something else like the ability to swing it or bowl some cutters. Never really seen hi swing it, has a fair yorker on him though!

Exactly a year to the day since this interview was conducted, and Meaks has just been announced in the Lions squad to face India A. Think that just shows what a great year he has had!

I'm thrilled with this news! :)

He always had the 90mph speed but his control has improved out of sight in the last year. Hopefully one day, he and Dernbach will open the bowling for England in the perfect Surrey-grown partnership :D

Atherton wrote a sarcastic about "home-grown Surrey players such as Pietersen and Tremlett" which ridiculed our transfer expenses under Chris Adams. Jade Dernbach (arguably Guildford CC's finest :D) and Stuart Meaker will have both been in the Lions squad this year and Tim Linley, Jason Roy and Rory Hamilton-Brown could all potentially follow! Also, Matthew Dunn is one to watch out for in a few years' time (he was in the U19 winter touring squad) and Surrey's youth teams (colts ages at Pemberton Greenish Academy) are in the top three in pretty much all age groups. So much for Atherton's ridicule, Surrey are producing good, young players once again :)

Stuart Meaker has been called up to play for England in the ODI series in India.

Hope he gets a go. Very exciting player. Anyone above 90 pmh will be a handful although he can be very erratic at times.

I have never seen him bowl but he sounds promising. Hope he plays well.:cheers

I'm just hoping he won't end up bowling two thirds of his balls as slower balls like his Surrey team mate Dernbach.

Except, he doesn't.

Yeah he mentioned it in the interview that he doesn't like the shorter formats. Just looked at his stats and his List A average isn't exactly what I would call good. But he would walk into the Bangladesh side any day.
