INVESTEC? Premier League Cup

Investec? Bank today announced a start of new Premier League Cup. With the help of ECB and BCCI, Investec? will sponsor the tournament which will feature 6 teams. All big names from major countries are said to be participating. ECB and BCCI will hold a joint conference soon where teams could be announced.

Sources reveal that this league could if administered well would generate cricket of highest quality and could attract many viewers. Also the first season could be held in England. Another source also reveals that with increased criticism of IPL has made BCCI think about the tournament future and hence their involvement in this league.

The format of the league is not yet known but it will soon be reveled in the press conference.

England Cricket Board Announce Premier League Cup

England Cricket Board today at Lords announced Premier League Cup. ECB chief Giles Clarke said "We as cricketing giants along with the help of BCCI have agreed to run a competition that would take place every year for 14 days." He also added " The tournament format will be 50 overs and 6 teams will participate and take on each other once. Each day we will have 3 games and after each day there will be a rest day."

Indian Premier League Shortened

Indian Premier League has bowed down against the criticism and the BCCI president decided to have the competition cut down to a month. Each team instead of double round robin would play only round robin fixtures and top four would be then playing into finals.

BCCI president said "After looking into all the matter and discussing it with open mind we have decided to reduce the IPL and promote 50 overs of cricket in a new league with the help of ECB." He added "We also hope that it receives all the support IPL received".

4 Teams Announced For The Competition

BCCI and ECB on their new joint venture announced 6 teams for PLC. 4 teams will play the other opposition twice in the competition. Instead of 6 teams that were rumored, only 4 teams would take part. ECB chairmen also said "Squads are getting finalized and there wont be any public auctions. Team owners will be auctioning for players in private and soon the teams would be revealed in couple days of time."
