Is it skills that only matter?

After losing two friendlies Extremely poorly while i could have held on for more i decided to dive into the matter.... Before i arrive at the conclusion maybe the two friendlies reporters summary will help...

Aura vs Assassins...

Assassins XI Aura
Top Order: respectable competent
Middle Order: competent feeble
Lower Order: abysmal worthless
Seam Bowling: proficient mediocre
Spin Bowling: mediocre respectable
Fielding: feeble feeble

Basically i expected a loss... but he trashed me just like anyone against a BOT...

Aura vs BFN Bombers

Aura BFN Bombers
Top Order: competent competent
Middle Order: mediocre feeble
Lower Order: worthless worthless
Seam Bowling: mediocre competent
Spin Bowling: respectable competent
Fielding: feeble woeful

I bowled much better in a dusty pitch bundled them out for 174...

But then i got out for 93...

Now lets Dive into the stats...

The 6 pure batsmen whom i let play in the team... they have no other work except fielding.

Murray, Naidoo, Dharmasena, Crainey, Wijenayake and Duminda...

Murray this season:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 9 7 394 2 78.80 95.17 144 8 0 1 2

Naidoo:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 7 5 265 1 66.25 92.98 125 1 0 0 2

Dharmasena:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 10 7 240 2 48.00 112.15 139* 3 0 1 1

Crainey:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 5 5 104 2 34.67 104.00 76* 1 0 1 0

Wijenayake:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 8 6 216 1 43.20 106.40 64 2 0 2 0

Duminda:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 5 3 75 2 75.00 108.70 58* 11 1 1 0

Duminda, Wijenayake and Dharmasena are exceptional cases...

naturally playing these high skilled players should yield better results...

But then Arthur and Fletcher are low skilled...

Arthur:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 7 6 351 2 87.75 94.86 147 0 0 0 2

Fletcher:

Batting M I R n.o. Ave SR HS C st 50s 100s
Season 7 5 259 2 86.33 94.18 108* 2 0 2 1

Surely they perform much better and exceptionally high against BOTS...

so what am i doing wrong?

My first Strong+ Spin bowler gave away 17 runs in two overs against an abysmal/abysmal batting lineup on a dusty pitch yesterday...

He ended up 2/40 in 10 overs... an Economy of 4.... while my other respectable bowlers gave away at max 3... not mentioning Fletcher... who is a comp bowler with abysmal consistency on the same day batted 107 balls racked up 93 runs... and still got figures of 1/10 in 5 overs...

So... should i go after stats or form? will you go after stats or form? you decide... I already have decided...

Skills first, then fitness unless fitness is really poor, then their statistics, followed by favourite ice cream flavour and finally, form.

I've seen guys on worthless form score 200s. I really have.

skills, although if players have identical skills ill use this technique to decide
PF

mentality (ie do i have an attacking line up, well a defensive will be preferred to act as the spine?)

if i think ive found a good role and orders for them

form (higher priority if a huge difference, may go for the lesser form player to try and raise the form)

fielding

handedness (predominantly right handed batsmen, spice it up with a lefty)

and finally, which name i like best

Fielding plays quite a role for me. I would overlook a minute difference in batting skill if it means better fielding.

Aura Pakistani Legend
Top Order: mediocre competent
Middle Order: mediocre mediocre
Lower Order: abysmal abysmal
Seam Bowling: mediocre competent
Spin Bowling: competent mediocre
Fielding: feeble feeble

So the investigation proved worthy... I won the match by 7 wickets...

Fletcher, Hilton and Arthur did well...

Thanks for all the feedback...
