Bad news for New Zealand early when Felmming pulled out of the match with an illness. Australia sent NZ into bat on a very damp pitch, a spinners heaven. NZ got off to a very slow start, getting only 14 runs off the first 10 overs, however they didn't lose any wickets. In the 11th over, Gillespie got the breakthrough with a ball that bounced up at McMillan caught behind. MacGill was expensive in his first over, however bounced back and bowled Sinclair for 12. It must of hit something on the pitch as the ball bounced really low. Symonds then had a bowl and got an LBW first ball, then next ball Cairns is bowled! Symonds on a hat-trick by missed the stumps by a kitens whisker. NZ in trouble at 5/48. Gilchrist fumbled the ball for a stumping chance, but that didn't matter, the spinners were on a roll and NZ were all out for 54. Symonds bowled fantastic with figures of 6/4!
Australia had a very easy target to chase, but were in a little trouble early in the match at 2/1. Lehamnn and Ponting got the Australian team back on track and managed to get the target of 54 runs in 14.2 overs. Symonds easily received man of the match.
