Johan Botha will be released from his Cricket South Africa national contract after the ICC World Twenty20 in September to take up the captaincy of South Australia. The surprise move came after Botha impressed the powers that be in South Australia with his performance for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League in December and January.

This is being discussed in the Australian Domestic thread but I felt that it could use one of its own...

Anyone care to explain why exactly he is doing this? I don't understand his thought process in captaining South Australia ahead of playing for South Africa...
 
More responsibility, regular game time, new experience, new challenge.
 
Is he really sacrificing his spot though? I know CSA have dropped him off the contract list, but from the sound of it they were still considering him for selection at all levels. So I think he's swapping money for more cricket.
