CHELSEA 0-0 SUNDERLAND
Chimbonda was sent off today meaning that Sunderland finished the match with ten men
Honours were even at Stamford Bridge in a match which Chelsea should of really of won.
Attack, attack, attack right from the start however although new signing Sergio Aguero was getting plenty of chances he was failing to convert them into goals. Michael Ballack again had a good game in his attack midfield role, and he made a couple of good efforts which were well saved by Scotland international Craig Gordon showing just why the Wearsiders paid so much for his services. Despite Chelsea’s flair it was Sunderland who came the closest with Kieron Richardson’s volley cannoning of the upright and David Healy’s effort being well saved by Petr Cech. So we went into half time goalless with Chelsea surely going in the most frustrated. Could Luiz Felipe Scolari possibly turn this around into a Chelsea victory?
Well unfortunately not for Chelsea as they made some changes playing three up front with Anelka, Aguero and Kalou, bringing off Michael Ballack and Alex. Chelsea pressed and pressed but to no avail as Sunderland’s defence was rock solid. There were a couple of penalty shouts from the Chelsea boys however referee Howard Webb simply waved play on to add to Chelsea’s frustration. However Chelsea’s chances of grabbing a narrow victory were boosted with the sending off of Sunderland’s defender Pascal Chimbonda. Chimbonda received his second yellow card for illegally holding back Chelsea’s Sergio Aguero. Chelsea had some last minute attempts including Frank Lampard’s stunning half volley which went just inches wide, it finished 0-0 and both sides shared the points.
