I'm essentially fluent in Spanish now (after 5 years of it in school), along with my native American English. I started to learn Esperanto a while ago until I realised that it was a waste of time .
I learnt it at primary and high school (both Jewish day schools) more so during primary (7 and a half hours a week) as they placed a particular focus on the subject and its history.
I don't think it's a strange language to know, on the contrary, the largest Jewish day school in Sydney houses over 1,000 (all Jewish, have to be) kids, so it would be strange for you not to know a considerable amount of Hebrew.
