Both Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar piled up centuries in Asia's mammoth first-innings total of 471. It was the latter's second ton on the trot.

The African bowling attack struggled badly for penetration as Shaun Pollock, Allan Donald and Jacques Kallis picked up a mere 4 wickets between themselves. The rest were all picked up by John Traicos, the only bowler to remotely trouble the Asian batsmen.
