Man of the match: Wally Hammond
After winning the toss, South Africa chose to bat on a good surface and posted a good total of 410 in the first innings with AB de Villiers and Jacques Kallis starring with the bat.
English spinner Hedley Verity did particularly well with the ball picking 4 wickets on a pitch that didn't suit spinners much. In reply to South Africa's 410, England posted a stellar 612/9 declaring with a lead of above 200 as the South African bowlers apart from Neil Adcock struggled and bowled many loose balls on an unresponsive pitch.
Len Hutton and Wally Hammond made the job for the batsmen to come easier by putting up a swashbuckling 217-run opening stand in just 281 deliveries.
Trailing by 202 runs, the South Africans were in total shambles in their second innings as no one other than centurion Gary Kirsten could even score more than 37.
They were bowled out for 311 leaving England a mediocre 110 to chase which they did in style. Thus England qualified for their first LAB final by knocking out the Season 2 defending champions and removing their chokers tag which they were given in Season 1.
The move to promote Wally Hammond to opening worked wonders as he scored 129 in the first innings scoring majority of the runs in the epic 217-run stand with Hutton. He also made an aggressive 39 during England's run-chase only to be unluckily run out after backing up too far.
great innings , brilliant batting and as well as bowling , really enormous score on the board .

In the playoffs Donald just took 2 wickets at 136.00. This explains the slump.

Most leagues here have suffixes like 'Premier League' or 'Championship' etc so I wanted to try something different and 'At Battle' came to my mind.
