Legends At Battle XII: Player draft

Draft rules & guidelines

- Everyone deserves a fair crack at Kohli, so I'll set the starting time of the draft for tomorrow i.e Tuesday 18 June 2024 at 14:00 GMT (7:30 PM IST, 7:00 PM PKT, 3:00 PM BST, 4:00 PM CEST, for more time zones visit here) in accordance with the PlanetCricket server time. If you have any misgivings regarding the set time, please mention them in the thread.
- Any picks made before the official starting time, even by the narrowest of margins, shall be considered invalid.
- Managers are only allowed to change their picks for a particular round if that round is still ongoing. Once the draft moves on to the next round, their picks will be made final.
- Each round of the draft will last 24 hours or until all picks have been completed by managers of said round. If 24 hours have passed since the start of a particular round without all managers of said round having made their picks, the other managers may move on to the next round.
- Each squad will contain 18 players with the following criteria:
- A minimum of :pss: 5 all-format specialists (Test, ODI & T20I capped; eg Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Rohit Sharma etc)
- A minimum of :psc: 3 T20 specialists i.e players that have placed at least twice the number of T20 matches (international/domestic) as compared to other international formats combined (eg Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan, Will Jacks etc)
- A minimum of :psx: 3 Test specialists. As the name suggests, this criteria means players who have only played Test cricket at international level and no ODIs/T20Is, which allows you to either select players from pre-ODI eras dating back to 1877 (eg Don Bradman, Sydney Barnes, Wally Hammond etc) to even more recent cases such as Mark Butcher for instance.
- A minimum of :pst: 3 associate legends.. This means players from associate countries that do not have Test status, or players that represented pre-Test status Ireland/Afghanistan/Zimbabwe/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka (then Ceylon). Here you have the freedom to select players irrespective of what format they played from any era starting from 1877 to present (eg Steve Tikolo, Ryan ten Doeschate, Bart King). I have even allowed players who have only played unofficial fixtures so as to allow certain gun players that never played first-class cricket back in the old days due to their country of origin not being interested to dabble for various reasons such as Canada's legendary Jack Laing of the 1890s, or even the likes of Friedrich Rincker, Arie Terwiel from the Netherlands, Felix Menzel from Nazi Germany etc.
- The remaining 4 players can be any of your choice regardless of which formats they played, including internationally capped or non-capped players. This also gives you the opportunity to get in some quality Test & ODI only picks from the pre-T20 era (eg Viv Richards, Dennis Lillee, Michael Bevan, Malcolm Marshall etc)
- There are no lineup restrictions save for the customary wicket-keeper in your XI, and at least 16 of your 18 squad members including at least 2 associates/T20 specialists getting a game at the very least.
- There are no country-based restrictions either, so just pick away at your pleasure as long as you play by the squad requirements mentioned above and build the strongest squad you possibly can.
- For reference on old-timers, one can go through the all-time stats or Hall of Fame of my Cricket at the Olympics thread or even LAB XI for a rough idea on how certain players that played in pre-ODI eras can be expected to perform in the 50-over format. It isn't a given that they'll perform the exact same way here as there are many factors that go into determining a player's success including adaptability, style of play, overall calibre etc etc. The same can be said for players with super impressive FC batting and bowling averages from earlier eras.
- Using the CTRL+F search bar while picking your players can prove extremely useful if you're trying to find out whether a player has been picked or not. So long as you spell his name right.

As I understand managers can make their pick of a round within that round duration at any time?

First come, first serve basis.

@VC the slogger

Would you be open to considering non-white South African players during Apartheid for this category?

Nope, I would not as they did have Test status the whole time but just couldn't play. But you have full freedom to select any such players in the 'Any 4 other players category ' including the guys that never got a Test/ODI for any of the established Test nations such as Sunny Jim, Kortright etc.. and the great '69-70 ers that just preceded ODIs can obviously be picked as Test specialists
