Having been rocked early by big Vince van der Bijl, TLC resorted to an innings of steady accumulation with Rahul Dravid and Mahadevan Sathasivam effectively blunting out the Pitch Burners' fiery bowling attack with a 146-run partnership for the 3rd wicket that lasted for more than half their innings. Neither man could go on to reach three figures as both fell in the 70s, but they set the stage for the power-hitters to come and go for glory. Andrew Symonds, Albie Morkel and Ray Lindwall collectively smashed 60 off the last five overs of the innings, taking a liking to Trent Boult in particular with the latter missing his yorkers to disappear for 81 off his 8 overs in an uncharacteristically horrid display.

All was forgiven for Boult at the end of the day, with Shane Watson expertly marshaling the run-chase with an unbeaten 113 off 136 balls following the early losses of Matthew Hayden, Kumar Sangakkara and Faf du Plessis which briefly had the Pitch Burners staring down the barrel. Not today though, for other than Watson they also had Michael Bevan to call upon, and he laid into TLC bowling attack with a stroke-filled 90 off just 78 balls as they impressively gunned down 284 with a couple of overs to spare.
