@Naman Thakur must be in worry
after seeing a brutal display of bowling from Western Aus.

The uncapped in Test bowler, Michael Neser
delivered vital blows in the middle and death to end with 4-45.

Jhye Richardson continued his impressive form
while Kyle Jamieson also complemented the Australian duo nicely.

Heino Kuhn was the only Titans' player
who looked dominating as he registered a very aggressive fifty.

Slow and steady wins the race.

The openers started brilliantly for WAUS
as they build the base for the middle-order to prosper.
But Morris, Steyn and Shamsi kept things tight.

With wickets tumbling, it required a brutal
assault for D'Arcy Short to bring WAUS a win,
which not only helps them qualify but
puts them at the top of the table!

@Naman Thakur QLD played well
and delivered above their weights
as I was expecting a 7 or 6 finish from them.

It is funny how the one tied game made a huge difference as
if QLD would have won that,
@CerealKiller 's AKL would not have qualified. :D

I'll be honest with you guys. When the drafts ended, this is what I thought would be the result at the end of group stages.

1. Hampshire
2. Western Australia
3. Auckland
4. Titans
5. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
6. Somerset
7. Queensland
8. Karnataka

It was the closest qualification scenario for me as a manager here in Planet Cricket TBH , after a disappointment in the first half of the tournament .......

All the players have had their moments in different game situations , proud of my team ........ :cheers

Remembering the first game where young Bryant had begun an assault onto the opposition .....

Knockouts
Semi-Final 1:
:aus: Western Australia
vs :eng: Hampshire
Venue: The W.A.C.A, Perth
Bio: Hampshire and Western Aus have been two of the strongest teams of the tournament. They were constantly in the Top-4 and have 4 of the top-5 bowlers (pacers).
The last time these two teams met, WAUS managed to escape with a win with just a margin of 1 wicket. So this time, I feel Hampshire will come hard.
Prediction: Hampshire
@Life Warrior , @X Factor vs @Asham

The Eliminator:
:eng: Somerset vs :nzf: Auckland
Venue: County Ground, Taunton

Bio: While Somerset has two really good batsmen in Hildreth and Rossouw and great all-rounders, Auckland have the stronger bowling unit and more batsmen capable of being match-winners.
A lot of will depend on the pitch. Both teams are very similar so the result will depend on how their quality players perform.
Prediction: Auckland
@Na Maloom Afraad vs @CerealKiller

Rules:

  • You need to have at least 1 wicket-keeper (:wkb:/:wk:) in your XI.
  • You can have a maximum of 3 overseas (:os:) players in your XI.
  • Name the pitch type if you are the home team.
Pitch Types:
  • (Green) - Great for swing bowlers but batting becomes better after initial overs.
  • (Dead) - Paradise for batsmen but quick bowlers can be useful here.
  • :left::right: (Dusty) - Spin friendly pitch. Non subcontinental batsmen will find them hard.

Somerset's decision of going with a flat track has not paid
any dividends so far.

Martin Guptill and Mark Chapman are looking
in ominously good touch.

Umaid Asif has given 30 runs in his first 3 overs while
Jamie Overton bowled well and managed the wicket
of Adil Amin but this might not be really. Nothing from Josh Davey ever
since his five wicket-haul.

And loss of two in-form batsmen.

Luckily,
Martin Guptill is still there and
has reached his fifty.
It was Josh Davey who got rid of Chapman while
Heinrich Klaasen was run-out by South African Rossouw.

6 more runs and he will have his
first hundred of the tournament.

While Guptill 43 scored off 35 balls in these 10 overs,
Sean Solia has been struggling.
His current score is 18 off 31 balls. Needs to up the ante soon.

62 runs in overs 21-30 is not bad at all.
But Somerset are not using van der Merwe properly.
Guptill has scored only 1 run against him in 10 balls this innings.

Pressure gets to Guptill as he falls just
4 short of a deserving century.
Another poor 10 overs for Auckland as they managed only 41 runs.

Even though it was Jamie Overton who got rid of Martin
and ended with figures of 2-37 off 10 overs,
credit must be given to van der Merwe as well who
bowled really well after getting hit a six and four off his first 2 deliveries.

Sean Solia has managed to improve his strike-rate
but he needs to smash big in the last 10
otherwise his innings will be a waste.

92 runs off the last 10 overs.
Somerset mess up big-time as they exhaust all the overs of their main bowlers.

Ben Horne played really well as he played with the right aggression
to give his team a better total to defend.
Sean Solia got his fifty and increased his S/R
above 80 but he knows he missed a trick by being a bit slow.

van der Merwe bowled poorly as he conceded
45 runs in his last 4 overs. Cutting saved the blushes
with 2 wickets.

Somerset have started slower than
their opposition which was expected as they have
Azhar Ali and Henry Davids in their top-3.

But the surprising thing is that it is
the young Tom Banton who has been struggling to play aggressive.
Davids is doing fine with S/R above 100 urrently.

Ben Lister has been one of the best
new-ball bowlers of this tournament and got rid of Azhar
in just the third ball of the innings.

And I thought the previous 10 overs were slow.
This was even worse.

Very unlike Tom Banton but he is
doing a good job of playing the anchor.
He needs to start hitting otherwise James
Hildreth will be under pressure.

Somerset lost on well-set
Henry Davids who got dismissed at 56..

Ferguson is the man in the middle overs.
His extra pace is always useful as he proved once again.

Losing your top 2 highest run-sorers
for a grand total of 8 means the match half-lost.
But include a set batsman with them and looks like
this is done and dusted.

Matt McEwan:
First five: 5-0-32-0
Next four: 4-0-7-3

A bowler who was averaging above 40 in the first 4-5 rounds of the tournament
has turned the tables around in scintillating fashion.
These 10 overs have been extremely painful
for Somerset. Ouch!

117 runs in next 10 is almost impossible.
Unless Ben Cutting and Roelof van der Merwe
can play a de Villiers' esque knock.

Matt McEwan has done what was needed.
He has turned his match completely in favour
of Aukland.

So far the middle overs have been strugglesome
even for the aggressive batsmen of Somerset.
Is there a miracle left to unravel itself
or are we just waiting for inevitable?

Ben Cutting tried but this was never gonna happen.

Only Hilton Cartwright bowled
expensively. Rest everyone did well in their role.
This could have gone the other way if
Banton would have played naturally or Rilee Rossouw
would have continued from his hundred in the last match.

After the 1st innings ended,
I thought Somerset will win this.

But we were in for a surprise in what was
a pretty easy win for Auckland.
Their bowlers bowled tightly and the pressure of chasing got to Somerset.

Winner: Auckland
