Your Cricket Maney2k9's Season Diary

School Game #1.

30-over game. They posted 109 all out. I went 6-1-22-2. Took my one catch. Down to bat at 5, but our 1,2 & 3 knocked the runs off.

Right.

School game #2, it was our Leaver's ball that night (Saturday) and so we played a Twenty20 game. We fielded first (bear in mind my head is on it's arse) and they posted 150-5 off of their 20 overs. I finished 4-1-12-1, taking a caught and bowled that was an absolute skyer. I also took another skyer the over after I came off, happy days.

I opened the batting, and started on the bowling as quickly as I could. By the time I was bowled on 18.3, I had made 88 off of 60-odd, a new personal High Score. We ended up winning the game off of the last ball, our #11 crashes a 4 through cover, giving us a 1-wicket victory.

Game 3 came a mere 3 days later, and on the final day of my hangover-spree. We fielded first yet again in a Thirty30 game, these guys posting only 132-7, I bowled pace, at a 7-2 field, going 5-1-14-0. My final over went for 11, which was the final over of their innings, and so my figures didn't reflect (so I believe) how well I actually bowled.

Batting, I opened again, and walked first ball, edging behind. Bad times.

On a happier note, I've been asked to keep on Saturday; if I can keep the Byes down to about 20-odd I'll be happy.

Yes pal, 20 was my aim, it was my first time behind the sticks :D

However, the game itself was a poor show. We were asked to field on a day that felt like it was pushing 30degrees, with myself the inexperienced keeper probably wanting to bat first. I shelled 2 catches within the first ten overs standing up, and wasn't getting much luck with the bowling, most of which was going down against me rather than the wides.

Anyways, long story short, it was 100% my last game for this captain, he is atrocious, poor bowling changes (persevering with himself, for example, despite going at 10+ an over). I was quite audible in my displeasure of his decisions, and apparently had a moan about me in the pub after. Care?

I got myself out on 1, just because he had pissed me off, "maybe now he'll get the picture" I said to the keeper as I walked off. The oppo's captain came up to me at the end and said to give him a shout if I wanted to play for him at any point this season, which is very tempting, to say the least.

Game stats: 12 byes, 1 stumping, 2 dropped catches. 1 Run.

Sunday's game was much better, I was with a guy who is rapidly turning into a good mate, and we had a lot of banter, umpiring for the best part of 20 overs, that was jokes. Our openers scored 114 and 60-odd, with our number 3 finishing 60-something unbeaten, and our skipper on 17 off 5.

Naturally we then fielded, again it was full of banter, and although I didn't bowl, I took myself back to the top of the fielding charts with 3 catches, coupled with my stumping yesterday, taking my total on the year (Club) to 10. (I was at mid-off on the Sunday, not behind the sticks haha). One was an "absolute pearler", going a good 4 feet over my head, I leapt, taking it one-handed before doing a Colly style celebration.

Playing school 3rd team tomorrow, on the school field, there's a team of Year 13s in our final week at school, should be a right laugh.

I noticed you took a few catches against Worli. I was checking their site to see if they'd put the scorecard for the Saturday game against us up yet. Did the Kiwi lad play for Worli against your boys? He opened up for them on Saturday, and looked a handy player. Played a few lovely shots off his pads off me, he was very strong there. One delivery was an inch or 2 short of a yorker, and he still managed to flick it over mid-wicket for 4. Managed to get him out in the end though, mainly thanks to our keeper :D Good effort from your lads by the looks of things, very handy batting performance that. Wouldn't mind seeing Strad bat like that, our A side got bowled out for 74 at the weekend :laugh

Haha yeah he did, he was the key(wi) wicket we needed, once we got him, it was more or less plain sailing to be fair. Seemed like a really down to earth bloke, too.

Won't go into too much detail about today's games, I played school 3s, given this is our last week, we had a team of Leavers 10 on the field, I opened the batting, and scored 52 off 30 balls (50 off 25), before bowling very tightly and finishing 6-1-21-0, again unlucky not to get a wicket. Took the customary catch, too.

Then raced to the midweek T20 game, arrived, went straight into bat, came straight out again, 2-ball duck, skied straight to mid off, even the wind didn't put him off. We finished 170-9 or something off our 120 balls, and kept them to about 20-odd (I reckon) off my 3 overs.

For those remotely interested here are the scorecards from the weekend:

You guys might want to sit down while you read the next line:

I actually bowled in a weekend game.

Granted it was only when the oppo were 8 down, but I got a go! I will get to that later.

We were playing Rumburgh, away (trek) and got there just in time to toss. We were put in on a sodden pitch, and massive clouds overhead.
Their opener runs in, first ball hits a length, bounces up, hits our opener on the forearm, unhappy times. We ended up 20-3 at one point, but our Yorkshireman and captain stuck on 120 for that wicket, taking us up to about 140-4, and the tail (including myself at 9) mustered about 40 between us, taking our total to 198-9 all told.

Tea was wicked, more of it than was clearly necessarily.

Then we bowled; I snagged another 2 catches, taking the season total to 11, and am far away the highest in the team. Our opener got 7fer, and our other opener 1.

Then came Manno :) 2 for 1 off of 2.5 overs, including a maiden. Solid.

We won by about 90 runs :)

Scorecard to follow...

Gosh it's been a while. I'll stick to club. School games pale into insignificance now I've left. Finished the 2ndXI for the last 2 years averaging about 45-50odd.

Anyway. Last game there (^) was against Rumburgh where I took 2-2, as it turned out.
That game. (Rumburgh Game 1)

Then another trip to Rumburgh the week after in the Cup this time. Again, took my token catch with relative ease, having taken a pearler the week before off the same batsman.
Didn't make it into bat, and I was slapped around for 26 off my 2 overs.
Rumburgh Game 2

Next up was the 'best team in the league'. Ipswich CC, boasting Joe Rusby, who hits runs for fun every week on both days. Anyway, long story short, I batted dilligently for 13 balls and 3 runs, before nipping one straight to 2nd slip. I was not impressed with the send-off, given I hadn't actually done anything to piss the guy off, and as a result was ready to kick off.

I bowled 1st change, and managed to get the infamous Rusby eventually, after the game was won (lost from our perspective). Still, not complaining about 2/15.

Ipswich CC

I then had 3 weeks off for holiday. Goodbye any sort of form I wasn't in.

Going back on your word is never advised. I said I would never play for the Saturday captain again. I did. Mistake.
I called him a not-very-nice name, and walked off after getting myself out first ball, just to prove a point.
Shitty Captain's work.

The month of August has seen me dismissed one time:

August 1st, 2010. B Manning 34* 2 fours 1 six. An innings that saw me bat from 86/5, to 158 all out. I started to see the ball nicely, and took us to a total that turned out to be a winning one.
Saxy time.
August 5th 2010. Probably my finest day as a cricketer: A local (big) club is having their Cricket Week, and I was invited to take on their 1st/2ndXI in an invitational side. Batting at 3, I went in with the team on 20/1. I hit a "rather special" 73* off 29 balls. We reached the target of 141 after only 13 overs, and I finished with 8 4s and 4 6s.
I batted 9 in the second game (fatigued much?) and hit 10 off 4 including another maximum, before I was bowled, my solitary dismissal this month so far.
No scorecards, unfortunately, or it would be signed, framed and on my wall.

Sunday August 8th: Less runs for me this week, playing in a friendlier, more banterful side, and it was such a laugh. Asked to open the bowling, I bowled solidly, if unspectacularly, taking a modest 2/23 and 3 catches. I then finished 29* as we lost the game and I ran out of partners.
Lost vs Bergholt.

August 14th: Another Academy game, I bowled second change, 8 overs straight off the cuff, beating the edge time and time again, rewarded (I would say) with 3 wickets. Then came the batting. At 6, I went in with the score not very high; and smashed my second ball for 6 over long off, and that set the stage for me to lead Kesgrave to glorious victory.
Manning leads Academy to Victory"

As you can tell, I am waiting eagerly for my next game, whenever that is.
