England Worst XI face Australia 1993 in the second (4-ball over) Ashes test, trailing 1-0.

England win the toss and bat first.

Jason Gallian is in for John Stephenson, but it looks a poor change when he goes without scoring.

Maynard and Lathwell are looking comfortable, and it's a surprise when Maynard goes.

Lathwell is unfazed by the loss of his partner and goes on to a classy 50.

But the pattern for England seems to be players getting starts and not going on; regular wickets prevent England from building a dominant score.

Blakey and Irani share a 50 stand in just 34 balls, dominated by fast leg-side scoring from the wicketkeeper.

paihith.jpg

The loss of Irani for 23 and Batty for 1 doesn't slow Blakey's aggression, and he goes through to his own 50 off just 36 balls.

Blakey farms the strike while batting with the tail, and finds support from McCague and Benjamin. It helps him go through to a brilliant 100.

Blakey is last our for 126, a vital innings. England then post 295 for 10. Lathwell's 66 holding the top order together, and Blakey's ton dominating the innings and taking England up to a competitve score.

In the first innings of the first test, England had dismissed the Aussie top order cheaply, and this was repeated in the 2nd test.

This time however, the Waugh twins couldn't rescue Australia.

In the circumstances 17 from Hughes and 11 from Warne classed as the tail wagging...

...but Australia were still dismissed for just 125 - 170 runs behind. The follow-on mark is 150 in this series, and with it being near the end of the day and his bowlers still quite fresh, Maynard had no hesitation in asking Australia to bat again.

The Australia second innings got off to a sensational start...

for England.

Slater out first ball and Boon to the last ball of the 1st over, both without scoring. The scoreboard may have shown 0, but the Aussies were in real terms negative 170 for 2!!

For the 3rd time out of 4 innings, the Australian top order imploded.

Healy and Steve Waugh put up some resistance.

and Waugh made a good 50 in trying circumstances

But neither could play the big innings needed to get in front and post a defendable total.

And when May 9th out with Australia 10 still in arrears it looked as though an innings victory was on the cards.

However the last pair of McDermott and Warne pushed Australia in front, but when a catch was taken in the slips to give McCague his 7th wicket of the innings and 10th of the Match, Australia were just 5 ahead.

England knocked it off in no time to square the series.

1-1 with 3 to play!

thanks! from 22/2 in the first aus innings, yes. IIRC it was v0.2 high pressure for the rest of that innings, then v0.4 normal for the 2nd innings.

It's the third 4-ball Ashes test, with England Worst Xi having squared the series in the last match. Can they keep momentum their way or will 1993 Australia snatch it back?

Australia certainly get the early luck, winning the toss on a beautiful-looking pitch and choosing to bast first. Slater and Taylor certainly made the most of it.

England finally removed Taylor, LBW b Illot, but Taylor could count himself unlucky not to get the benefit of the doubt.

Slater and Boon also had a solid partnership, but Batty managed to get a nick from Slater to send him on his way for 66, the hundred that seemed certain was not to be.

Boon made 50, but also couldn't go on.

At 190/3, Australia were still set for a big score, but England kept plugging away, and nobody could take advantage of the great track to go on to a big score.

Australia dismissed for 310. A good score, but nothing to what it seemed they might score at one point, and they probably go in a little disappointed.

They weren't disappointed for long.

England capitulated to all out for just 113, a deficit of 197. Despite the pitch still being good, and plenty of time still available, Alan Border immediately enforced the follow on.

England needed to bat sensibly, so it was amazing when Lathwell ran himself out for 2 in the first over, and he was swiftly followed back into the hutch by Gallian, his 3rd failure in 4 innings.

Habib and Maynard rebuilt, and it was the first time it looked as though England were batting on the same pitch as Australia.

But when Maynard fell without adding to his 50, it led to a familiar procession.

England folded to hand Australia a thumping innings victory and put them 2-1 up with just 2 matches to play.

What I love most about this thread is waiting 5 minutes for all the pictures to load...

Following their demoralising defeat in the 3rd Test, England Worst XI move on to the final 'first class' tour match, versus a Harold Holt Memorial XI, made up of 9 cricketers and 2 Victorians strongly suspected of having something to do with the Prime Minister's mysterious disappearance, @BigAntStudios and @MattW .

BObnB9J.jpg

England make several changes to their side to allow others to press for Test Match inclusion, in particular giving first tour appearances to Darren Maddy, Richard Illingworth and Min Patel.

England win the toss and bat first, hoping that a good score can be put up and perhaps put pressure on the under-performing top order.

It doesn't work out that way unfortunately, only Maddy prospering as they slump to 52-4. Maddy Scores an amazing 50 of the first 69 runs scored. And with fellow opener Stephenson scoring only 2, Maddy surely makes a great case for taking Jason Gallian's place for the 4th test.

nz10AJF.jpg

hZrhLwo.jpg

Unfortunately however, Maddy couldn't make a really decisive score, going out for 55, caught behind by Rixon off Whitehorn.
zKqMkoU.jpg

LGXAJ0r.jpg

The tail couldn't wag, and England slumped to all out for 141.

Joey Benjamin was soon celebrating during the Harold Hold XI innings, taking each of the first 3 wickets.
j0ATNoy.jpg

But Martyn and Redpath rebuilt before Mahmood returned to the attack to remove them both.

6zlo5fm.jpg

GI25Hh0.jpg

7IzNjLJ.jpg

Min Patel's absolute-lack-of-mystery spin was nevertheless too much for the tail, as he took 4 of the last 5 wickets to fall. The Harold Holt XI was all out for 129, a lead of 12 for England.

qpstHtX.jpg

4up1nCY.jpg

England's 2nd innings got off to an even worse start than the first, as they slumped to 50/5. Hegg and Adams stabilised, before Symons and Whitehorn did to them what they almost certainly did to Mr Holt, and cut them off in their prime.
A7Aa1PU.jpg

yUR46mo.jpg

Lower order hitting from Mahmood and Illingworth took England up to 149, Mahmood last man out for 43.

The target then was 162, and a solid opening partnership of 46 took the Memorial XI on towards victory. Maddy's dibbly dobblers were an unlikely threat, taking 4 of the first 5 wickets to fall as 46/0 became 98/5.
NTPMvmO.jpg

Symons and Redpath had a good partnership, but both fell with the target still short. Redpath giving Maddy his 5th wicket.

RuXlxTx.jpg

M1kbWMo.jpg

12 to make, 3 wickets in hand and England's tails up, the match was certainly not won yet. However, although Hamilton took his first wicket of the match there were only 2 runs left to make, which were made with no more drama.

JhvPewU.jpg

So, another defeat for England. Maddy's all round performance and the slight return to form of Adams with his 2nd innings 39 are slight positives to take, but going into the 4th test on the back of another defeat was not what they wanted.

England must win the final two tests to win the Ashes.

I have felt too
embarrassed
to bring this up..... but.....

I have been busy with a tour of WI to India, Me playing as WI......(NOT reduced skills)

It's been more than a week......

I started the bowling, and have seriously taken looong brakes in between.......I am just not getting something right.....PRO mode, and the India side has been smacking me left, right, and center....at this stage they are at 530+ with only 3 wickets fallen (2 coming from runouts). Honestly, I love the fact that this is the 1st match I don't get all of the AI out, but then again, I feel, this is PRO!!!!

It is still their first innings, I see no way that I should pull a win from this......Which is actually a bloody good thing. But DAMN, give me a wicket already! hahahahaha.

Insane stuff from the AI, and loving it......not sure if my controller sticks will last though.

(On a sad note, only 4 edges(all falling short of a catch though) in over 150+ overs).

This, is going to take a while to finish.....and it's the 1st of 3 test matches. lol

So India got all out on 128 with Kohli being the last wicket. Indian bowlers started well with some time line and length but Guptill looked solid until the first wicket which started was an epic come back. Indian bowlers kept picking up wickets and Ashwin was turning the ball so much that it seemed he was bowling in India. He took a 5 wicket haul and New Zealand were struggling on 69/9 before there was a magnificent innings from BJ Watling. He was the only batsman who looked comfortable in a pitch that seemed like a seamers track but turned out to be spinners track with 9 out 20 wickets taken by spinners so far. India now lead by 13 runs before starting the second innings. What seemed like a 50 plus lead initially now being 13 runs is still a confidence booster.

216260_20160511222355_1.png[DOUBLEPOST=1463022984][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh btw I have continued playing with Fearsome Tweak patch on Normal level. Seems great, have got 4 edges to slip and feels good that consistently bowling that off stump line pays up

India has declared, FINALLY, on 558 - 3......Time to strap in and block for 3 days.lol

165 over finished.
Rahane -> 237* (439)
Kohli -> 168 (298)
Raina -> 100* (185)

I still see NO WAY that there is enough time to pull a win from this one. I can't take big risks, since that might just bring up a loss. I'll just try and get to that score without losing all my wickets. This is going to be long ass batting innings (hopefully). And only a draw to look forward to. hahaha

Amazing!

So Indian openers started to come out leading by 13 runs. Murali Vijay and KL Rahul who both looked good before getting out to good deliveries. Once again using Fearsome Awesome Tweak on Normal Pressure. Murali Vijay and KL Rahul started perfectly once again leaving the good balls and hitting the bad balls. Mark Craig was introuduced to see if they could break the Vijay Rahul partnership but Vijay was playing perfectly. Boult in his first over got rid of KL Rahul which started a collapse of epic proportion. :-P

India were bowled out for 137 after being 40/1 or 76/2. Trent Boult was just unplayable. Will India be able to defend 150 runs? It will be interesting to see. The pitch has started helping seamers and spinners and India playing 3 seamers and 1 spinner should fancy their chances.

216260_20160514205724_1.png
So finally the Revamped test match between India and New Zealand ended. New Zealand in the end came up on top but it was a hard fought war. India bowled their heart out and there were plenty of hits and misses. India's wicket taking ability was tested and the bowling at one point got so stagnant that the captain Kohli had to take the ball in his hands. He did prove effective with his slow paced deliveries. In the end the New Zealand batsman played well and deserved this victory. India were 40-50 runs short.

So continued with my USPL tournament which I had kept on hold as I was playing India New Zealand revamped test. NYC Dragons were taking on Orlando Panthers. The pitch was a bit tricky as there were patches of grass and was hard.

216260_20160514231955_1.png 216260_20160514231951_1.png 216260_20160514231947_1.png

The match started like a dream for Panthers who got Aaron Finch for a duck, his second of the season. Dragons who are heavily depended on Finch Sammy Rahim & Akmal. The local talents are good and are yet under developing. Bartley was playing and missing plenty of deliveries and looked good and settled. Ganesh came in and thrashed Parnell for few runs before getting out to him. Chauhan and Parnell bowled beautifully and Patel ended the Dragon's misery by taking the last two wickets.

Panthers started strongly with bat & Sammy the most experienced bowler with Benn was getting hammered before the first break through came in. Bartley was given the ball and he did everything he could to get Dragons in the game but Adil Bhatt just took the game away from Dragons with that amazing innings.

So played the next round of USPL. The most on paper strongest team LA Vikings vs NYC Dragons. NYC Dragons won the toss and elected to bowl first seeing the pitch had very very little grass and little overcast conditions they want to make use of those conditions. Playing this on High Pressure v1.02 of fearsome tweak.

Mitchell Johnson was bought in for Benn for this match and straight away had an impact in the game. Sammy Johnson and Awan were bowling beautifully and kept picking up wicket and the only person in between them was Eoin Morgon who slowly and steadily was picking up the pace. He played the most beautiful innings under pressure and scored a half century.

Dragons started okishly with Finch once again getting out cheaply. Soon Bartley and others departed and pressure was building on Dragons when Shoaib Malik was introduced on to the attack. We had seen earlier that spinners were not supported by the pitch. Allen hit Malik for 6 sixes and just took the game away from Vikings.

The league table looks like this after 4 rounds and only 2 more rounds left.
