Microsoft Flight Simulator Discussion

Or press Y for slew mode and go forward.

Ok, made a few flights around the place now over the last few days since I was up at my grandparents place with not much to do so I spent most of my time playing it :p

Any mods that people would suggest getting. Is FSPassengers worth getting on the trial version. Won't be able to get the full version as my mum and dad wouldn't let me most probably just for a mod for the game.

FSpassengers is deffo worth getting. Also you might want to try to get some add on aircraft and scenaries.

Most of the good stuff is payware but you can find a lot of free addons at sites like

simviation.com

and

flightsim.com

Yea I have the full version.

What do you mean where should I go? I heard the missions on FSX are fun, have you managed to complete them all? there is a 4 engine failure on a 747, I really wish I could play that one.

Yeah, I've tried a fair few of them. Haven't done the one with a jet engine failure. I've done one with a Cessna Skyhawk where I had an engine failure and had to turn around and make a tough landing in the mountains which I managed to do, which I was surprised. Flying blind across the English channel was different using IFR and I managed to land that as well. There's a lot more to do as well so I'll slowly get through them.

Just downloaded some scenery for Nepal airports so I'll try that now, taking off frmo Lukla and then maybe go around a bit and land back there :p

The real challenge is flying into Lukla from Khatmandu.

A Cessna won't manage to fly around Lukla :p you'll crash and die in the mountains at that altitude.

Try the beechcraft baron or the king air turbo and fly to Lukla, if you can make that approach I'll be impressed.

You might want to fly into some other challenging airports.

Madeira is a tough one and try Vail, Colorado.

If you can find addons for Kai Tak, that's one of the coolest and scariest airports to fly into, you have to fly right over Hong Kong at low altititude.

I learnt that the hard way :p

Ok, now going to try it in a Beechcraft Baron 58 G1000. I'll try the other airports you mention afterwards.

I'll post how I go soon.

sweet and screen shots are always appreciated :) I love to see how the game runs on other peoples systems.

Ok, Ill post some screenshots tomorrow when I resume my flight as i had to go out for dinner halfway through and I'm on my iPod atm.

And yeah, I'm using my laptop to play the game as it won't work on the comp

Well I had it all set with the approach good but the damn plane wouldn't slow down even with flaps full, no throttle, landing gear and holding on the brakes with the plane nose straight ahead, not even down but it still wouldn't slow down and I ended up not braking in time. I did take some screenshots in the second half of the flight though.

Yea for Lukla you should be around 80 knots on the final approach, there is no go around procedure so it's imperitive to be at the right approach speed, only get the one chance.

on flightsim.com there is a fantastic free addon for Lukla airport, it's close to the real thing and a hell of a lot better than the default Lukla, check it out.

lol just noticed that tree in front of the run way! WTF that is not supposed to be there, try to get the add on.

Also don't apply brakes until all 3 wheels have touched down!

ok, i'll go get that addon then.

And yeah, I was just trying anything to get the plane to slow down since nothing else was working as I wasn't going to be able to stop it on the small runway at that speed. (I was at about 100 knots)

I got FSPassengers now so I'm going to try and work out how to use the autopilot so it's easier and I don't have to worry about the altitude and heading in the middle of the flight.

IN single engine planes the auto pilot is on the radio stack at the bottom.

Remember to make sure to double check what setting vertical speed is on, it should be positive for a climb or negative for descent. If that is not right then the auto pilot will stall and crash the plane.
