England Ashes Squad Named

Duncan Fletcher leaving Lords after the squad announcement

Lords, England - The England Squad for the Ashes has been named today with the big surprise being the inclusion of young spin bowler Chez Spin in place of the returning Ashley Giles. The Lancashire spinner has impressed the selectors in his time at Old Trafford and it is said he may even start the first test due to his almost all-rounder style batting, in comparison to Monty's rather poor batting. Some sections even say he is a better spin bowler. Despite this, the management have commented that the decision will be made with careful consideration and with thoughts on tour games.

The other main talking point is the appointment of Flintoff as captain. Although it has been predicatable, there are critics of this move claiming that England need their star allrounder to bat and bowl well and that captaincy is giving him too much pressure.

It is also worth mentioning the terrible injury situation, with Trescothick (stress related illness), Vaughan (knee) and Simon Jones (ankle) all out of the Ashes. All 3 of them made a big impact last time round and it will be interesting to see how England cope without them.

The 20-man Ashes 06/07 Squad: A Flintoff (Capt), A Strauss, A Cook, R Key, E Joyce, I Bell, P Collingwood, K Pietersen, O Shah, J Dalrymple, G Jones, C Read, M Panesar, C Spin, S Harmison, M Hoggard, J Lewis, J Anderson, L Plunkett, S Mahmood

Good start to this story mate, I can't wait to see you in action in this one.

Looking promising, good luck :D

Lancashire signed him up for their youth teams a year later after some amazing feats of bowling at club level. After 3 years of playing in the Lancashire youth teams, he was propelled into the spotlight by being called into the first team for the beginning of the 2006 season. In his one season for Lancashire he has made a big impact on the county championship with an average of 22. In the winter of 2006 he was given his first England call up for the Ashes tour squad.

Tour Game 1

vs. Prime Minister's XI
Hobart
50 Over Match

England kick off their Ashes campaign today with a tour match against the Prime Minister's XI. The pitch is looking in good condition and should help the batters, but it is overcast and the ball will swing a bit.

The England team named for this game is:

A Strauss
A Cook
I Bell
P Collingwood
K Pietersen
A Flintoff*
C Read+
S Mahmood
M Hoggard
S Harmison
M Panesar.

Chez Spin has been left out of this game for Panesar. Management have told us that Spin will play in the next tour game with New South Wales and that the tour games will be given equally between the spinners

England vs. Prime Ministers XI

England are looking to kick start their tour here at Hobart and have shown that intention by fielding a very strong team.

England have won the toss and are going to bat. Its a little bit dry, so we may see some deterioration and it is overcast, but it should be a batters day.

England's top order really showed their class with half centuries for both openers and a 46* for Bell. Pietersen came in and knocked it around a little as well. The only problem could be that they have set a low target now.

(Note: Future matches will be more detailed than this, this doesn't have Spin in so I dont have mush to write about :p)

Slow rate there by the English. I think that the PM's XI could win this.

i like the look of this chez. i wouldnt waste my time playing the prime ministers XI either. save yourself for the big fish
