My Batting Advice

Cricket 07's 'Century Stick' functioned like that. If you have a PS2 lying around, get it and give it a go (it supposedly works on the PC version, but I've never found a compatible controller).

Honestly I can't reliably achieve either slight movements on the triggers or slight pushes on an analogue stick effectively in a short space of time. I certainly think it's harder to achieve with the sticks though.

That said - I can't see any downside to it being implemented anyway as additional control if you can manage it.

Well I just came up with another idea

Why not just make the whole RAS as to
Nudge the ball around for singles or doubles, and make it a little pressure sensitive so to take singles or doubles,or sometimes a perfectly
Played shot would get us a 3 or even a boundary..for this big-ant have to implement a risk/reward mechanism of its own like thick gully edges or a bit lofty strokes, plays and misses etc, because without that no dismissals would occur via RAS,but i seriously think this would be an awesome
Control design choice...the Left trigger would remain then for aggressive ground shots while the left+right trigger would become for lofty aggressive shots...and we can assign a risk mechanism so that the perfect shot goes along the turf while near perfect shots gets lofty albeit with same power,so we can have a four or a catch either...

The last version of MLB: The Show I played (12) introduced analog controls like that, where you had to time both the backswing and the swing. I don't think it was clever enough to allow for different swing strengths, though.

They may have worked on it some more in 13 and 14 ...

I've played every MLB The Show game since 10, and the Pure analog controls are pretty much still the same as they were in 12. Its about timing and placement. You still have to press a button prior to the pitch to set power/contact swings.

It's incredibly hard to have the whole thing work purely from the analog sticks, so really although it isnt perfect yet, Big Ant Studios should be applauded for what they have done so far with DBC14.

Certain shots are totally impossible

Can someone tell me how to hit wide of mid on or midwicket or hit the ball pass the cover fielder. Everyone is saying good things about the game but there are some glaring flaws that can be fixed.

No square drive.
Anything on middle or leg can only be hit either straight to mid on or if u go squarer than the ball goes to fine lag or square leg. Midwicket is impossible to hit unless you are pulling the ball.

Same goes for off side.. back foot punches either go to mid off or if u try to play squarer the player only cuts the ball through point. Square drive is not even in the game.

I can score a lot of runs by playing within the limitations of the game on pro difficulty but when I try to play all around the ground using a variety of shots the game feels very restricted. It feels like there are a lot of deliveries that cant be hit the way they are hit in real cricket.

I don't find midwicket as impossible off the front foot post patch 2 as I used to. I think it's a combination of footwork and timing.

Most of the difficulties people have boil down to not enough feedback when batting - If I knew _why_ what feels like the same stick movement produce different results, I'd know how to correct it.

I really wanted to start my own thread but couldn't seem to do that.???

Anyway it's about the defensive shot (L2 or RT) I seen a lot of people complaining about how the defensive shot stood the ball dead and that you can't really knock the ball into the gaps, by pure mistake I did a safety shot on the offside but lightly pressed the trigger and it plays somewhat of a little push shot!! Safe to say this has helped improve my batting tenfold. You can really knock the ball around

Just thought I would share this in case people did not know.

Nope.....this technique doesn't work for me on 360 version. If only it did!! :noway

Batting seems bloody difficult.. pressing three buttons in a split of a second seems impossible.. always need to premeditate the footwork...

They should give an option to slow down the game or at-least introduce a pitch marker in the upcoming patches

The moment I started playing in pro mode I felt how difficult batting is in the game. But over the time I learnt couple of things which helped me.
1. Changed the camera mode from broadcast to far batting.
2. Started looking at the ball the moment it gets released from bowlers arm. This helps me to plan the foot work. I agree we need to take a split second decision but I felt this camera mode is much better for me than broadcast. What camera mode are you on mate? I don't agree with pitch marker as it will take out the beauty of this game.

I'm scoring around 30 to 40 runs consistently now.

Well, i'm playing so far using far batting camera only.. but still it's quite difficult to pick the correct footwork..

I pick the medium pacers and spinners quite easily but it's the fast bowlers that i struggle with... I agree the introduction of pitch marker may ruin the game, but not everybody have fast reflexes..

You can always settle down for just one footwork. What i do is, I play mostly on frontfoot on pitches with lesser bounce as i can hit shorter balls comfortably even on frontfoot. When pitches have more bounce i play only from backfoot. This takes away the additional work you have to do in the split second. Now you just need to look at the line of the ball and play accordingly.
Second major part of my technique is to analyse the field and identify the gaps. So mentally I'm prepared that if the ball is on middle or leg I will hit it towards this gap on leg side and if the ball is outside off or on off stump i will hit it towards this gap on the off side. So my right thump is ready to make two quick movements and hence lesser chance of bad timing or edge.

Here is my tip, place thumb gently on top of right stick for straight drives, legside shots and defence.Defence will hardly ever be beaten this way and drives are timed much better.

Over the months that I have played this game I have developed the following technique;

1. Play on the front foot exclusively.
2. Powerplay overs I almost smash everything.
3. if one ball is bowled leg side, very likely the next one would be middle or off.
4. keeping that in mind I hit two aggressive shots and then work the gaps.
5. recently I started putting an effort on test matches and what i do is just play for singles and once my confidence is up i defend 3 deliveries and then play over the top for the rest until field change.
6. Long on lofted shots are the most frequent.

Hi ,

Just scored 2 centuries yesterday. One in a 4 day and one in a one day match. I feel the game has some clear cut issues now. I just play leg side to not to get out. If I keep playing singles, twos and three with the odd boundary its just a cake walk . The problem is with the length and line the AI is bowling. It is 80 % towards the body and its very rare a bowler bowls 2 or more balls in the offside or short and wide stuff for you to play the cut and the glide to the third man.

Just satisfied , but the game mechanics got to be fixed to ensure we decide on the spot and not premeditate to being absolutely safe. Also the AI fielders on the ropes are a definite bug. One more thing is the repetitive commentary when you are in the nineties! Absolutely annoying. As an ardent cricket fan hoping the game evolves soon.Great effort though!

I am not sure why people are making the Batting out to be as hard as it is some of you must be doing a lot wrong no offense, I got my first 50, 51 the other night in an OD game in my Career sure I was only playing shots on the leg side but once you get the timing down on this game Batting becomes pretty straight forward especially against pace bowlers, my batting avg in all formats is only getting better in Career now and most of the time when I go out now it's from trying to be aggressive using L2 and getting caught.

I could be wrong but I think the more xp you get for playing certain shots makes things easier too as you progress in Career mode. the only problem I seem to have is blocking against Spinners I cant seem to get bat onto ball against them at least when blocking my timing is totally messed up there. :noway I am always playing on Broadcast Camera view too with inverted batting, This game also really needs a minimap so you can see where the fielders are badly lol.

Even I also faced the same problem in the beginning but later i figured out the solution. Press L2 which was used for lofted shot before the bowler start to run, which gives a 360 degree eye rotation of batsman view with the fielder position name to find the place where we can hit a safer shot. Good luck

At what difficulty setting do you get the white halo around the ball being bowled to you to indicate the optimum timing of your batting stroke? I haven't seen it on rookie or amateur settings.

There's no indicator which lets you know when to play the shot or what the ideal time to play the shot is. You have to learn it by experience.
