Namibia A Clinches OD Quadrangular Series Title in Guernsey

St. Sampson, Guernsey - Namibia A emerged as the champions of the List A Quadrangular series in Guernsey, securing victory in a thrilling final against Niue A by four wickets with 9.3 overs remaining. The triumph marked a remarkable turnaround for the Namibia A team, showcasing their resilience and determination.

Namibia A's journey to the Quadrangular series title was marked by a series of exceptional performances. The team had a challenging start with a defeat to Niue A by eight wickets in the opening match, having been bundled out for 160 runs. However, they rebounded in style with a resounding 81-run win over hosts Guernsey A and a thrilling five-wicket victory over South Africa A.

In the crucial encounter against South Africa A, Namibia needed to chase the target of 217 in 46.2 overs or less to advance into the final, or else would have missed in Net Run Rate. But the Eagles did just that, chasing the total in 45.3 overs to set foot into the series finale.

Captain Silas de Forest expressed his elation, saying, "This win means everything to us and overall Namibian cricket." De Forest, who didn't get called for the Africa Cup of Nations despite having a wonderful domestic List A season, was given the responsibility of the A team instead. His exceptional captaincy and strong performance, with 132 runs at an average of 33 including a half-century, justified both his leadership and contribution to the team's success.

Several Namibia A players shone during the series. Opener Gerrit Grobbelaar, who amassed 171 runs at an average of 42.8, earned a place in the Team of the Tournament. Teammates Michael Nghipandulwa and Albertus van Wyk, who scalped 4 and 6 wickets in the series respectively, were also recognized for their outstanding performances, with Nghipandulwa receiving the Player of the Final award for his crucial contributions - a wicket and a knock of 22(16)* that helped Namibia A clinch victory.

With the List A Quadrangular series title in the grasp, Namibia A will now shift their focus to the upcoming First-Class series, scheduled to commence on April 15. Namibia A Secures Double Triumph as First-Class Quadrangular Champions in Guernsey

Guernsey - The celebrations continue for Namibia A as they clinch yet another title, emerging victorious in the First-Class Quadrangular series in Guernsey. The team showcased resilience and excellence, securing the championship with a convincing nine-wicket win over Niue A in the final.

Dominant Performance in the League Stage

Namibia A's journey in the First-Class series was marked by outstanding performances that set the stage for their championship triumph. The team began the quad series with a thrilling three-wicket victory over the home side, Guernsey, chasing a formidable target of 364 in the last hour of the fifth day. A high-scoring draw against South Africa A followed, but Namibia A earned crucial extra points by leading in the first innings, securing their spot in the final.

In the last league match, Namibia A continued their dominance with an 8-wicket victory over Niue A, paving the way for a repeat encounter in the final. In a convincing display, Namibia A defeated Niue A once again, this time by nine wickets, to claim the First-Class Quadrangular series title.

Captain Silas de Forest expressed his joy, stating, "Winning both List A and First-Class series is excellent for Namibia." De Forest, who led the young Namibian A side from the front, contributed significantly with 256 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 51, including three half-centuries.

Top Performers in the Series

Several Namibia A players stood out with exceptional performances throughout the series:

  • Berriz Redecker: The top-order batter emerged as the leading run-scorer for Namibia A and second overall in the series, amassing 377 runs in seven innings with an impressive average of 62 and four half-centuries.
  • Gerrit Grobbelaar: Contributed significantly with 291 runs in seven innings, boasting an average of 48.
  • Lwazi de Klerk: The fast bowler claimed the top spot as the leading wicket-taker in the series, securing 22 wickets in eight innings, including two 5-wicket hauls.
  • Bongani van der Merwe: The left-arm spinner played a crucial role, garnering 18 wickets in the series.
  • Thomas Shipena and Albertus van Wyk: Both bowlers contributed with 12 wickets each in the series.
