Calvin Murphy. Rudy Tomjanovich. Moses Malone. Hakeem Olajuwon. Clyde Drexler. Yao Ming. Just some of the great and iconic names to ever put on a Houston Rockets jersey. Despite all that, the Rockets have only ever won two championships and have not reached the finals since 1995.

With the 2012-13 season, the roster has been totally transformed. With a focus on youth and potential, the Rockets are now the youngest team in the NBA. With key signings in James Harden, Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik coupled with underrated draft pick Chandler Parsons, the team now has a core group around which to build.

A new age has begun.

Houston Rockets

Younger. Faster. Fearless.

Note: I'll be aiming to write full match reports for Houston games only. I will be keeping track of the other 29 teams in the NBA by just noting down scores for their matches and their top performers. When we get to the playoffs, I'll be writing full match reports for all games even if Houston don't make it that far. I'll try to make it through the season. No promises.

haha, good luck. Yeah, American seasons are just stupidly long. Got tired of doing updates on my NHL story, continued on with my save but got bored about halfway through the season :p Now back to FM12 where I only have 40 odd games in a season, lol.

Yea, 82 game seasons are insane. Part of me loves it but part of me is dreading it. That's why I've written about 5 updates ahead meaning I'll always have something ready to post.

I'm about 15 updates ahead in mine but don't plan on posting them :p

And yeah, ik how you feel. I love it when trying to follow it, since there's a game every couple of days but when you're playing it, it seems like you've been playing forever and then it's just like "wow, I'm not even halfway through the season".

1st quarter

Thomas Robinson opened the scoring for Houston. The first half of the opening quarter was pretty much tit for tat, Houston scoring and Detroit scoring in return. Things started to unravel with 5 minutes left in the quarter. Detroit went on an 11-4 run with shooting guard Kim English coming on and hitting his first shot for 3. The Rockets defence started to make unnecessarily and silly fouls. Royce White fouled English while he attempting a 3-pointer and Carlos Delfino did the same to Charlie Villanueva, resulting in three free throws for each foul. Brandon Knight hit the final shot of the quarter for 3, extending Detroit's lead into double digits.

End of 1st quarter
HOU 22-33 DET
Jeremy Lin 5 pts, 1 reb, 1 ast
Kim English 7 pts, 1 ast

2nd quarter

Houston needed a quick start to the quarter if they were to get back into the game and that's exactly what they got. They came out more aggressive on attack and placed good pressure on Detroit with their defence. This resulted in a 13-4 run which brought them to within two points of Detroit (35-37). Robinson hit the jumper to tie the game and a James Harden 3-pointer gave Houston the lead (40-39). By the end of the second quarter, the Rockets were well and truly in control.

End of the 2nd quarter
HOU 57-49 DET
James Harden 10 pts, 2 reb, 4 ast, 2 stl

3rd quarter

Harden sat out the start of the third quarter after playing a majority of the first half. Without him, Houston still managed to maintain their lead but Detroit started to claw it back. Patrick Beverly came on and hit two 3-pointers on the trot. Detroit brought it back to within six points (74-68). With two minutes to go Harden was brought back on and immediately got to work, hitting three 3-pointers and scoring 9 of Houston's last 12 points to give them a 12 point lead heading into the final quarter.

End of the 3rd quarter
HOU 86-74 DET
James Harden 19 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast, 2 stl
Greg Monroe 12 pts, 5 reb, 4 stl, 1 blk

4th quarter

The start of the fourth quarter was just as if not more frenetic than the second. A 17-4 run put the game all but out of reach for Detroit at 103-78. Beverley and James Anderson got some precious game time and they used it well, hitting their shots. Jason Maxiell had the final play of the game, with 2 points to push Detroit past 100.

Final
HOU 123-101 DET

Turning a 11-point deficit around to post a 22-point win was a great effort. Houston really rallied in the last three quarters. They need to be careful that they don't fall too far behind against the top teams because it will be that much harder to post a comeback like this.

well great turnaround there. Wouldn't have been too disappointed if you had lost that game but as long as you don't beat the Lakers, I'll be happy :p

November 18 is the first game we have against the Lakers. Still ages away story wise :p

Steve Nash is injured atm but he'll be back in time to face the Rockets.

well hopefully Lakers can keep getting the wins on the board.

But yeah, I had NBA2k12. Didn't really get that into it, was mainly just playing my player career. Think I managed to get a transfer to the Lakers but stupidly was playing SG so wasn't able to play beside Bryant much at all :p

And whenever I played as the Lakers, the only player I could ever score points with was Kobe. It was get the ball to Kobe or we're not scoring :p

Houston Rockets (1-0) v Atlanta Hawks
November 2, 2012
Philips Arena, Atlanta, GA

Houston Rockets
PF - Thomas Robinson
SF - Chandler Parsons
C - Omer Asik
PG - Jeremy Lin
SG - James Harden

ATL_zps35bf8c76.png

Atlanta Hawks
PF - Josh Smith
SF - Kyle Korver
C - Al Horford
PG - Jeff Teague
SG - Louis Williams

1st quarter

James Harden came out all guns blazing in the first quarter, racking up 22 points. He was hitting shots from distance and driving to the rim, drawing the fouls. Despite that, Atlanta kept pace with Houston, mainly through Kyle Korver and Al Horford. In the final 3 minutes, Atlanta went on a 10-2 run to eventually tie the first quarter at 29-all.

End of 1st quarter
HOU 29-29 ATL
James Harden 22 pts, 1 ast
Kyle Korver 7 pts, 1 reb

2nd quarter

After Harden's dominant display in the first quarter, Atlanta knew what they had to do in order to win: shut James Harden down. And shut him down they did, so much so that Harden was restricted to just a solitary point. Patrick Beverley and Chandler Parsons assumed responsibility for the scoring whilst Jeremy Lin suffered another quiet quarter. Horford took charge for Atlanta, edging his side ahead at the end of the first half.

End of the 2nd quarter
HOU 53-56 ATL
James Harden 23 pts, 1 reb, 3 ast
Al Horford 11 pts, 4 reb, 1 stl, 1 blk

3rd quarter

Atlanta came out in the third quarter intent on shutting down not only Harden, but all the Rockets scorers. Horford was gobbling up all the defensive rebounds served up and pressure was put on the shooters. Houston could not respond. Jeff Teague scored 7 points in the quarter with Horford adding 4 more to his total. Lin and Parsons failed to score only adding to the anxiety creeping into the side. It was a quiet quarter for both sides but it was Atlanta sitting pretty with a 13-point advantage going into the final quarter.

End of the 3rd quarter
HOU 64-77 ATL
James Harden 26 pts, 1 reb, 5 ast
Al Horford 15 pts, 8 reb, 1 stl, 1 blk

4th quarter

Things started badly as Carlos Delfino fouled Louis Williams whilst he was attempting a 3-pointer. All three free throws went in and Teague added a 3-pointer of his own. When Korver fouled Parsons with just under 10 minutes left to play, the momentum would shift drastically.

Harden, Lin and Parsons, the Rocket's main scorers, came to life. Parsons started with 5 straight points after the foul. The defence was reenergized, suffocating Atlanta's attack, which led to the Hawks being unable to get a shot off before the shot clock expired. Lin added 11 points and Harden 7 and with just over a minute remaining, Houston drew level (93-93).

Korver hit a jumper to put Atlanta back ahead (93-95). With 38 second left, Parsons drew a crucial foul off Horford. He put away the two free throws but the lead would again fall back to the Hawks, Williams with 2 easy points (95-97). With 8 second left, Thomas Robinson put away a clutch 2-pointer, locking the scores at 97-97. The Rockets displayed good transition defence forcing Williams to go for an off balance shot as the clock ran out. With the scores tied, the game was going to overtime!

End of the 4th quarter
HOU 97-97 ATL
James Harden 33 pts, 3 reb, 5 ast, 1 stl
Al Horford 18 pts, 15 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 1 blk

Overtime

Robinson started things off superbly, breaching the Hawks' defence for a mid-range jumper. Just as Horford looked to tie things back up, a superb steal from Lin gave Parsons free reign to score. Lin, so quiet through the first three quarters, was on fire. 7 straight points came from Lin, along with 3 free throws from Harden as he was fouled taking a 3-point shot. Incredibly, the Hawks were kept scoreless in a dominant 14-0 run from Houston in overtime.

Final/OT
HOU 111-97 ATL

A poor third quarter almost cost the Rockets the game. But they rallied together in the fourth and blew the game open in overtime. Lin proved to be the catalyst for the incredible turnaround. Patrick Beverley and Thomas Robinson must also be given credit for their contributions as well as Omer Asik, who recorded a career best 18 rebounds.

Two big come from behind wins have the Rockets 2-0 from their first two games. But there is still much work to be done.
