Your Cricket New Bat

Just a note to Wonder if possible try for a decent english willow bat, with sports equipment you don't want to skimp, as the general idea is that money usually brings quality, and a proper knocked in and maintained english willow will last ages. Also get the store to knock it in, even if its at a small extra cost, it'll save you from coming back in two weeks to get a replacement because you neglected to knock the toe in properly or some other trivial error.

Yeah I'm buying after xmas with xmas money to try an get a bargain for an english willow county warne in after xmas sales. Any comments about the County Warne?

Some people are bigger than others. You can't really "judge" exactly a person is on how old they are. For example I got my first full size mens bat (Short Handle) at 13 and 8 months.

A bat should come up to just below the hip, so for a 13 year old, I'd normally bring out a size 6 or a harrow first and see where it is. In all honesty though, once you've sold bats for a bit, you can guess what size people as they walk through the door.

Also, when choosing, get into your stance and play a few shots, for example a harrow may be the right size when holding it but feel too big/small when actually playing a shot.

well i just heard that they go to factories and the bats get knocked in for them , and pretty much the bats get made for them the way they want it.

Which is true and there is nothing stopping you doing the same, if you have the time and money. Hell, I'll make one for you for ?250 (SH and grade 1 willow) if you tell me what you're after.

As for knocking them in, well, normally pros wouldn't bother as they want the soft, springy wood. Though they can get attached to bats that perform well, if they break, they break.

I was always told the bat should come upto your hip. Mine probably goes a bit above it, not quite sure. Oh and lol at your edit comment :p

The main thing is that you're comfortable with it, some people like SH, some LH, some even like long blades. The hip thing is rough guide to get people in the right area.

The important thing is that you're happy with it and that you can play the game the way you want to.

Obviously that is just a guide line. Everyone is different.
