It may not be the dream grand final series we were all hoping for, but Vettori's Magpies will come up against the giant killing Volts.
The Magpies got here for the second season in a row through shear hard work and determination, but all the talk leading up to this epic encounter has been about their opposition the Otago Volts.
For some it may seem like the most controversial team in this season's NZPL cheated the system, as they won only two out of their first nine round robin games before winning five of their next six.
This run from them has prompted dramatic season four play-off changes to stop this from happening again, but who's fault was it really?
If the Cobras had beaten the Volts in their round 10 clash Otago would have been out of here, but they failed to do so in that match or either of their next two play-off encounters.
At that stage the Trailblazers were licking their lips at the chance of versing the Volts to see who would represent the southern conference in the grand final, but that quickly turned sour for them as they went one nil down in their best of three series. Some Wellington fans may ask did they get there team selection right for the final game, only playing one specialist bowler on an outstanding batting track. This in turn cost them dearly as their fifth and sixth bowler between them got hammered for 89 off nine over's and five balls.
Weather or not the system was fair we will never really know, but the NZPL CEO Callum Gray did say in his defense that every team owner was happy with it at the beginning of the season.
The Magpies at one stage may of seemed down and out, going down one nil to the northern conference favorites Waikato. They did not however give up hope, as an amazing batting effort in their final championship match sealed the deal.
Hawke's Bay will be relying heavily on their bowlers to do the bulk of the work throughout these two or three matches, but some more of their batsmen will need to start standing up of they want to lift this trophy.

Watch out for...
Daniel Vettori - He's probably been the leading all-rounder this tournament, with a batting average virtually double his bowling average. To go with that he is the tournaments leading wicket taker with 27 scalps, and an economy rate of just 4.1.
He started the tournament batting at eight, but he has slowly risen up to where he bats now at six.
He will be a vital player with both bat, ball, and with his captaincy decisions, if the Magpies are going to win.
Dale Steyn - The worlds leading fast bowler, and one of the tournaments leading bowlers. He has 19 wickets at under 20, including a five wicket haul against the Volts in round six.
If you take away his two five wicket hauls he has only picked up nine wickets in his other eight matches, so if he's good he's great, but if he's off song he may be a bowler Otago could attempt to target.
AB de Villiers - He's currently the tournaments leading run scorer, with 729 runs at an average of 66.3. A player with solid defense, but also a good striker of the ball, makes him almost ideal for the 50 over format.
In his 14 matches so far, he has passed 50 on nine of those occasions, but only gone onto three figures once.
Along with Michael Clarke they form a formidable three and four combination.
Shane Bond - Just one wicket away from Daniel Vettori's 27 wickets, he and his New Zealand captain will battle it out for the Sir Richard Hadlee Bowler of the Tournament award.
It's not been typical Bond the whole tournament however, as at times his age has got the best of him and he's bowled some expensive spells.
Along with Aamer and Wagner they 53 out of the Volts 92 wickets, and will need to dig deep into the Magpies line-up if they are going to have sucess.

Pitch and conditions
* Game One at McLean Park in Napier is bound to be some sort of terrible batting track. In the seven matches there this season, only five scores of over 200 have been posted. A good score on this track will probably be just over the 200 mark.
* Game Two at the University Oval in Dunedin has always been a wild card venue in terms of what sort of playing conditions show up. In the seven previous matches here this season there have been five scores of over 250, and four scores of under 200.
* Game Three at Westpac Stadium in Wellington will be used as a neutral venue if the series is tied up at one all after the first two games. No games have been played here this season due to the Wellington franchise changing their name and homeground. A hard and flat drop in pitch is more than likely what will be awaiting us here.

Muahahahhah!! Sorry couldnt resist saying that 
Tbh I dont remember that we have EVER chased a score exceeding 300 in the NZPL. And what a time to break that record. Their batting was fantastic, and are bowlers were Ok tbf. On Excellent wickets you would like to contain, and we really didnt do that. However we should pride ourselves that we took wickets at regular intervals and they could only muster two big partnerships, one at the start and the other at the end. Bcv had a huge batting lineup and I think it was the right tactic considering that they knew we couldnt really chase a 300+ score.
Malik struggled to get going, and it was pleasing to see Marshall come up and score his first 50 of the tournament right when we needed it. De Villiers and Clarke then played aggresively to make sure we didnt really have too much to do in the end. Styris, our fantastic captain, led from the front and made sure that there was no choking at the end, and found support from Symonds and Cumming.
Fantastic work with the lads, out there I am really pleased with the way theu have responded in the last few games! One More Please!

Wagner and O'Brien are reasonably similar, and O'Brien's done pretty well. Stewart on the other hand would have been very handy, especially considering how poor my batting is.

What an amazing game of cricket, thoroughly deserving of a grand final!!!
It swung in roundabouts for so long. At 189 for six it was the Magpies to lose, and they did just that as they lost their last four for only five runs.
The Volts now head into game two with a one nil lead, and all the confidence after a nail biting victory.
Shoaib Malik was awarded man of the match, but some might feel James Marshall for his run a ball 45, or Shane Bond with his crucial three top/middle order wickets were more deserving.

It swung in roundabouts for so long. At 189 for six it was the Magpies to lose, and they did just that as they lost their last four for only five runs.
The Volts now head into game two with a one nil lead, and all the confidence after a nail biting victory.
Shoaib Malik was awarded man of the match, but some might feel James Marshall for his run a ball 45, or Shane Bond with his crucial three top/middle order wickets were more deserving.

Fantastic game there! We were in a very strong positrion at one stage 146 with the loss of 2 wickets and we should have buried the game right there, but it didnt happen. We collapsed there losing 7 wickets for 50 runs as Afridi and Steyn bowled blinder spells. A bit disappointed cuz we had some strength down the order to carry on from there. Well batted Marshall, Clarke and AB.
We took wickets at regular intervals and where always in the hunt however Misbah and Marshall deflated us with a good partnership and nearly took the game from us. Malik took the wicket at the right time for us and we were back into it. A few 20 run partnerships followed but then a dramatic collapse led to us leading the final series by a game.
