New Zealand Premier League XIII

It has not been fully decided yet, but it is likely that you will have to release a minimum of three players from your season four squad.

These three or more players can be in any combination of New Zealanders and internationals, for example you could release one international player and two New Zealand players, or you could release five international players and no New Zealand players.

Then at the beginning of season six, provided we get through season five alright, we will be having a full reshuffle.

I just want your thoughts on what I have posted above, please not in anyway do not post what players you are thinking of getting rid of at the moment.

Also Wellington will only have to release a minimum of two players as Fleming is retiring, and Canterbury will only have to release a minimum of one player as Astle and Cairns are retiring.

Just one thing.
Instead of a complete re-draft in season 6,it would be great if we get to retain at least 4-5 (may be 3 local + 2 overseas) players who have been a part of the franchise for 4 or more seasons after the completion of the fifth one though i won't mind a 'full reshuffle' either

I've been thinking about it, and what I've got in mind will only really work with a full reshuffle. :p
Anyway lets not think to far ahead of ourselves ATM, and just focus on season five.

If anyone has any complaints about last seasons format, now is the time to post them:

Groups/Pools - Will be generated via seeding after the squads have been finalised.

Simulator - Syedur Rahman's Cricket Simulator (2000)

Two practice matches (both against opposite pool)
All your players must play in these two practice matches.

Three round robin matches (all against your pool)
Four round robin matches (all against opposite pool)
Three round robin matches (all against your pool)

1st semi-final series - 1st in Pool A vs 2nd in Pool B (two match series)
2nd semi-final series - 1st in Pool B vs 2nd in Pool A (two match series)
Home games go, 1st placed team, 2nd placed team.
In order for the 2nd placed team to advance to the final, they must win both the matches, otherwise the 1st placed team will go through.

Third place play-off - loser of 1st semi-final vs loser of 2nd semi-final (one-off match)
At venue of the team which finished on the highest points in the group stage.

NZPL grand final - winner of 1st semi-final vs winner 2nd 1st semi-final (one-off match)
At venue of the team which finished on the highest points in the group stage.

Total:- 54 Matches

Two things:

- Do we have to play all our players in the warm-up games. I'd rather give players like Parlane two games, instead of say AB, because its better for us to see how they go?

- Semi-Finals should be a one match series. The better team on the day should be going through to the next round. There are one off games in pretty much every major cricketing tourney.

2 warmup games = 22 players, you have an 18 man squad, so some of them will play twice.

I like the current NBA style format in the group stage and the semi-final series is pretty good as well.
No major changes required,really.

If that is the case then I'll introduce a rule like if a player played in at least seven games last season, they do not need to play in either warm-up game.

Does that sound alright?

Well in season three multiple teams were complaining when you came from third in your group to win the whole thing.

I made this rule up as it puts emphasis on having a good round robin, to set you up for winning the whole thing.

If other people only want a one match semi-final series I'm happy to change it as that rule was made before last season due to you guys wanting it, so pretty much if a few people want it changed I'm happy to do so.

What are other peoples thoughts on this?

thats a crap rule, i rather have a 2 or 3 match semi-final series and a 3 match final series instead of just one.

Thats a good idea mate.. Why don't you make it T20 and 50 overs..

I answer this question every season with the same answer.

Firstly there are NO good T20 sims, secondly when I ran a T20 competition in season one (I think this was the first ever league to have two formats in one season) there was very little activity and NO interest in it, at the end of it everyone said it was just a waste of time and they wanted to get into the 50 over stuff, and lastly there is so much luck involved, we might as well just roll a die and to find out the T20 champions.

Hope that is good enough reasoning.

I don't want to have too many play-off games, as then others not involved in the play-offs will lose interest. Your idea is what I did in season three, but then due to some complaints I made the appropriate changes for season four.
