England started positively Trescothick and Knight where looking good at the crease. England lost their 1st wicket with the score on 71. Trescothick was out on 41 to the bowling of Cairns, Good start for England. England where strolling along nicely until Harris came up with the goods and bowled Hussain 127/2. A nice partnership between Knight and Thorpe was building and then in the 42nd over Knight fell to cairns with top scoring on 80. Knight has had a good tour so far 192/3. In the closing stages England started to hit more aggressively and Thorpe was out for a well played 52. Flintoff didn?t last too long and England posted 244/5 after their overs. Cairns took 3 wickets and the other New Zealand Bowlers didn?t have much of a say.
New Zealand started their chase with the loss of a wicket in the 2nd over; the Dangerous Astle was caught at slip from the bowling of Gough. New Zealand lost their 2nd wicket of Nevin to Hoggard 31/2. Captain Fleming and McMillan steady the innings before McMillan was undone by Hoggard 70/3. Again New Zealand steady the partnership until Vincent fell to Collingwood 128/4 and then the New Zealand Collapse started Cairns Harris and Adams all fell to Collingwood leaving the hosts 168/7. Giles picked up 2 wickets of Vettori and Tuffey and Gough got the last wicket of Butler. New Zealand all out 201. Stephen Fleming top scored with 76 but needed to have a solid partnership with the other batsman to win the game.
England won their 1st game of the series and now need to win the next game to make it a series decider in the last ODI.
Result: England Won. New Zealand leads the series 2-1

England won the toss and elected to bat at Eden Park. It may have been the wrong decision as Trescothick fell to Tuffey on the 3rd ball of the match. England then settled for a fluent 40 partnership before Hussain got trapped LBW to cairns. The run rate slowed down for England as Nick Knight was run out for 38, 78/3. Michael Vaughan was brought back into the England team and it seemed to be a right decision as he made 59 runs but then got run out by a direct throw from Vettori. Flintoff came and went as he edged to first slip of the bowling of cairns, 170/5. Collingwood got stumped off the bowling of Harris 185/6. Then one hour of constant rain delayed the match and England could only complete 40 overs. Duck worth Lewis Kicked in and which set New Zealand 223 runs to win off 40 overs.
England started off with an early break through Hoggard producing and edge off Nevin 9/1. it was looking bleak for New Zealand as McCullum went for 5 off Hoggard again. Captain Fleming then was the next Victim to Gough 42/3. McMillan fell for 10, New Zealand are in dire straights 58/4. Vincent and Astle both fell to Flintoff 86/6. Surely England had this one in the bag. White got 1 wicket to his name that of Harris 153/7. Cairns top scored with 58 but was beaten by Collingwood?s medium pacers 167/8. England skittled the last to wickets, New Zealand 189 all out.
Result: England won. Series levelled 2-2
England remembered how to bat again after first two ODI?s and won the last two games to level series now it is all on for the final ODI and decider of the series
With the series levelled 2-2. All was to play for in the decider
1st Test: New Zealand v England at Christchurch, 13-17 Mar 2002
England 218/8 50 overs
Hussain 59
Shah 57
Tuffey 3/42
Cairns 3/32
New Zealand 223/5
Astle 122
McMillan 44
White 2/30
Gough 2/42
Nasser Hussain won the toss and elected to bat in the final match. Looked like a good decision as New Zealand will be chasing under lights. New Zealand made an immediate break through with the wicket of Trescothick in the 3rd over 8/1. Next man was to go was danger man Nick Knight to Tuffey 43/2. Thorpe came and went. Adams snuck one underneath his bat straight onto the stumps 61/3. Nasser Hussain made some form as he made his first 50 of the series but didn?t last too long as he went for a big shot and got caught in the deep 133/4. Shah also made a 50 and was looking good until he got trapped lbw from cairns 170/5. Danger man Flintoff was bowled by Cairns 172/6. England didn?t look like they would get over 200 after 50 overs but a crucial 21 from Giles helped England to 218/8. England made a reasonable total and it would always be hard for New Zealand to chase under lights.
New Zealand started off with a bang in their reply both openers looked solid until Flintoff made the break through of Nevin 55/1. McCullum soon went to White 77/2. New Zealand lost Fleming for 1, 80/3. A 100 partnership between Astle and McMillan made for certain that New Zealand would win this one but McMillan was trapped lbw to Gough 180/4. Danger man Cairns went for a duck, could England win this? Astle brought up his 1st century of the series. It was well played under lights. Astle and Vincent secured New Zealand the win with an over to spare. New Zealand won the series and they deserve it, England players really didn?t perform well with the bat and very fortunate to square the series.
Result: New Zealand won the 5 match series 3-2
Can England Perform better in the 5 day version of the game? Tune in to find out
England Cricket team Arrive in New Zealand, Vaughan hopeful that warm-up does not get washed out
England arrived at Auckland International Airport in the early hours of this morning and held a quick media conference and left for their Hotel.
Michael Vaughan was fully aware of the situation of the tropical storm that was threatening to wash out England?s tour opener against Canterbury.
?We are fully aware of the situation with the warm-up, fingers crossed that the storm doesn?t affect us?
?We like playing in and against New Zealand, their countries culture and scenery are magnificent. Its one of the best places in the world to tour?
This is an ideal tour for us before we tour Australia in the winter.
Vaughan not afraid on NZ pitches
The pitches here should help our bowlers although we are not taking anything for granted as the pitches must have been batting beauties for the recent Chapel Hadlee Series where New Zealand managed to chase a world record score against Australia.
Vaughan talks ahead about the challenges of the one day series
I think ODI series will be hard for us as New Zealand is an ideal ODI side and a force at home
England?s opening tour match against Canterbury has been washed out due to a tropical surge that has hit northern New Zealand. This was only England?s three day warm-up of the test match series. They will now head into the 1st Test starting on Friday with no match practice under their belt.
England Coach Duncan Fletcher was very disappointed about the wash out and now he will need to prepare the England team for the 1st Test.
England tries to seek out a friendly before the 1st Test but to no avail
The ECB has tried to organise a friendly game with other countries before the 1st test but due to the heavily schedule in cricket no country is available. South Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia are busy with the VB Series and India and Pakistan are busy with their test series in Pakistan. That only leaves one team available for a quick warm-up and that is West Indies, but the West Indies Cricket Board has rejected the proposal.
?Due to the fact we are touring New Zealand after England?s tour there is no point for our boys to go all the way to New Zealand for a quick 2-3 day friendly and then come back again and then leave again to New Zealand for our series. It?s just a waste of time and pointless? quoted by a WICB spokesman.
New Zealand have announced a 12 man squad for the 1st test which begins this Friday
JDP Oram, L Vincent, HJH Marshall, SP Fleming, NJ Astle, SB Styris, BB McCullum, DL Vettori, KD Mills, SE Bond, CS Martin, A Adams
New Zealand has named a Strong lineup for the 1st test. Stephen Fleming will captain New Zealand into this series
Cairns To Quit
Chris Cairns is set to quit ODI Cricket after the England ODI Series, his last game for New Zealand will be against the West Indies in a 20/20 match after England?s Tour.
John Bracewell, the New Zealand coach, said Cairns would be missed. "He is very much the elder statesman within the team and plays an important role in mentoring players," he said. "He has shown great commitment in returning to full fitness this season and I believe that he had the ability to push towards the World Cup."
Cairns retired from test matches against England in 2004
