The day I was appointed manager of Newcastle United I knew I had work to do. How are the 'Geordie Boys' going to convince anyone with any footballing sense that Newcastle United are a big team, when we are consistently finishing mid-table. I have the players in front of me now, after years of being a fan who thinks he can do the job, I now have the chance. My first day on the job I had a meeting with my staff, training them up for the new season. From a fan's persepective I'm sure the season goes a lot quicker than it does when you're actually on the job at the club. This is why I decided to focus on the fitness staff, we're not going to get a long way with key players being injured. As everyone knows, Newcastle has an extremely frustrating injury curse. We're well on our way with our preparation for our first game of the new season, Bolton at St. James' Park.

English football will fear this Stadium over the next year
I've tried to stay away from the media as much as I can this week but before match-day I tried to get my point across to the managers that we weren't going to be a mid-table side anymore, Newcastle United are still a force in the Premier League and I intend to do well here. Our final training session was solid and we seem to have ironed out the creases that were shown in pre-season. I am obviously a Newcastle fan at heart, so I am determined to bring silverware to Tyneside. We recently signed a deal with Setanta Sports meaning every single game we play this season, they will be covering in detail. The talking is over for now though, I'll let my boys do the talking on the pitch.
