The games in the USA may not go ahead. At the moment theres about 3 organisations battling for control of US cricket. They're trying to get a stadium built in Florida. (I bet that would be nice weather for cricket!)
As for the US team, there isn't a single US born player in the entire team and there hasn't been in all their ICC trophy campaigns. There are some US born players playing in league cricket in the US, but they are yet to make it into the national team.
Saying that, Bart King, an American player with the old Philadelphia team from the late 19th/early 20th century, was said by those who faced him at the time (including English and Australian test players) to be the best bowler they've ever faced. On a tour to England he set a season bowling average record that stood for 50 years and is still one of the highest in an English season.
That Philadelphia team certainly could compete, they once beat the full Australian test team.
