No sound on any browser

Update:

Tried youtube with my new PC and it does the same thing. Must be the speakers. Though I'm at a loss as to why they'd work with things like WMP but not Youtube.

That's weird... the only thing I can think of that is caused by that is that your browser is trying to use some other device to output sound, for some reason.

Any idea how I could change it/where I can find the settings?

Would it be in the about:config? I've looked in the applications tab of the browser options and that seems fine.

I had downloaded the K-lite codec pack, though not seen that link and the fix broken sound thingy. The new comp is SP2, not hooked up completely with that yet though.

So you've changed computers and still have the same problem. Are you sure you've plugged them into the right sockets!

Is the sound-card on the new computer compatible with the speaker configuration?

I would again recommend you to check with a headphone. Plug it in in each socket, one at a time till you get sound.
Check for sound from the browser, and also from media player.

I'm not colour blind, Kev!

Abhas, do you mean just the headphone jack sockets, or all of the different jacks?

It's an on-board sound card, I have thought about buying a proper sound card, but then if the speakers have gone to pot, I'm not sure, then again, they must work properly as it works on WMP.

I'll do some testing in the morning.:cheers

Did you click the appropriate option in K-Lite codec pack? Just checking.

If all else fails chuck your computer out the window and go live on a boat. :)

I hadn't seen that with the codec pack when I first installed it on the comp (I found no instructions to do that), will do it in the morning.

Besides, Sohum, I live on a big boat, it's about a 1,000 miles long, a few hundred wide and has pastures green! ;)

K-lite codec didn't work, shall check, again, the audio drivers tomorrow.

When you install the K-Lite codec pack there's somewhere in the installation a drop down, and there you should select "Lots of Stuff" to make sure the FLV / whatever codecs concerned are installed aswell.

Just checked settings on new computer, it's not recognising the speakers at all, I reckon the driver isn't installed, like the ethernet one wasn't.

Then how were you getting sound on WMP?

How are your speakers connected? If they're connected with the standard 1/8" cable then you won't have something in device manager, since it is just working off the sound card.
