Norwich City - a new start

Ipswich at Portman road. They always pick the derby games, in my game they are showing the home and away fixtures for Coventry v Leicester.

It is fairly realistic to do that, Norwich v Ipswich is shown every season on Sky Sports in real life.

LOWESTOFT TOWN v NORWICH CITY

My Norwich City team made it's way to the East coast for a friendly against Lowestoft Town at Crown Meadow. I had been pleased by the performances so far, with 5 goals scored and 0 conceded in the 2 games. I expected another comfortable win.

I made 4 changes to the side that beat Dereham Town in the last game, Andrew Cave-Brown started at right back, Jason Shackell came back in the center, Ryan Bertrand returned at left back and Kieran Gibbs got a start in place of new boy Daryl Murphy. This was the line up:

----------------------Marshall-------------------------
Cave-Brown---Shackell--------Doherty---------Bertrand
Croft---------Russell-------Fotheringham (c)--Gibbs----
------------------Evans----Dublin---------------------

Substitutes: Gilks, Otsemobor, Drury, Pearce, Cureton, Camara, Chadwick, Murphy, Pattison

It was a warm, exhausting afternoon but there was a breeze coming off the sea. The match didn't start well for us, Jason Shackell tripped Richard Taylor in the area and Lowestoft Town scored the first goal against us in the pre season from the spot in the 15th minute. This gave us the chance to have a go at coming from behind.

Just 3 minutes later Ched Evans finished off a good move and scored the equaliser, which was a relief. I was even more pleased when Cheesy headed in from a Lee Croft corner to put us in front. He got a yellow card towards the end of the first half but that was nothing compared to his two goals.

At half time I encouraged the team and I said they had done well to come back from a goal down so quickly. I brought on Daryl Murphy so he could get another half under his belt in place of Kieran Gibbs and Jamie Cureton came on for Dion Dublin, to give Dion a rest and let Jamie have a run out.

In the 53rd minute Cureton scored from long range to show his gratitude to me for being put on the pitch and we were in the ascendency. We were rarely troubled for the rest of the game, we closed out Lowestoft Town well. It was just a shame Ched Evans couldn't get his hattrick.

Lowestoft Town 1-3 Norwich City
Evans 18, 21, Cureton 53

CANARIES SEAL COTTERILL LOAN DEAL

19 year old Wigan Athletic striker Dave Cotterill has signed for Norwich City on loan until the end of the coming season. Cotterill has been capped 8 times by Wales so far and he is likely to bond well with fellow Welsh youngster Ched Evans. His pace could cause problems for the opposition in the Coca Cola Championship.

Dereham is closer to Norwich than Lowestoft is, but yep, it is good to get some local pride.

Coventry fans must be hard to please if a player goes 'off the boil' after one game without scoring!

Nice story Lee, Good luck and keep it up!

Thanks very much, comments like this are much appreciated.

SPILLANE ON HIS WAY OUT OF CARROW ROAD

Norwich City have decided to accept Tranmere Rovers striker Chris Greenacre as an offer for young midfielder Mickey Spillane. The scouts came to the conclusion that the 29 year old would be beneficial to the club and manager Lee Payne offered a contract, which has now been accepted by Greenacre. He said he was looking forward to playing for such an 'illustrious' club.

CANARIES PREDICTED TO STRUGGLE

Norwich City have been given long odds of 40/1 to win the Coca Cola Championship this season by bookmakers Sky Bet. The odds make it seem more likely that the Canaries will be fighting to avoid relegation than pushing for promotion. West Bromwich Albion and Charlton Athletic are the joint favourites to go up to the Barclays Premier League with odds of 7/4, with Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers at 2/1 and Southampton and Sheffield United at 5/2 the other contenders.

ANOTHER SCOUT LEAVES NORWICH CITY

Norwich City have now lost 4 scouts in the pre-season with former kit man Terry Postle moving to Sunderland. The Canaries have been awarded £50,000 in compensation taking their cash from leaving scouts to a total to £154,000 so far. The club are yet to appoint any replacements.

Cotteril's a quality signing. Used to play for Bristol City and moved to Wigan for £2 mil. Easy pre-season so far, but will be tough in the Championship.

I doubt you will struggle. The lowest I can see you finishing is around 12th place, but I bet you will finish even higher than that. You could do with a few more signings though. Cotterill will definetly help you stay up this season, and even push for promotion.

Good work so far Lee, keep it up!

I am glad you like my signing!

I will take your suggestions on board. I might look for another defender.

KING'S LYNN v NORWICH CITY

The last friendly game was definitely the toughest for my Norwich City team. King's Lynn is about 40 miles away from Norwich and the Linnets are the other major football team in Norfolk. We were still in a much higher league than them though, so I expected another comfortable win.

I only made 2 changes to the side that came from behind to beat Lowestoft Town last time out, this close to the start of the season some consistency is needed. Daryl Murphy started in place of Kieran Gibbs, and my latest signing Dave Cotterill started instead of old man Dion Dublin. This was the line up:

----------------------Marshall---------------------------
Cave-Brown---Shackell--------Doherty---------Bertrand--
Croft---------Russell-------Fotheringham (c)--Murphy----
------------------Cotterill----Evans---------------------

Substitutes: Gilks, Otsemobor, Drury, Pearce, Cureton, Camara, Chadwick, Gibbs, Pattison, Dublin

It was a hot afternoon but there was a real downpour, so the players would have to deal with a slippery pitch. Dave Cotterill showed me straight away how good he is by getting himself in front of an open goal and sliding the ball in on 10 minutes, a great start for us in the game and a great start for him in his Norwich City career.

It was a game that was dominated by the midfield, I would have thought that was something to do with the weather, but up front it was all us. Ched Evans headed in a corner with just over 10 minutes to go until half time, Cotterill showed me he can take good corners by flighting it perfectly into the area.

5 minutes after that King's Lynn got one back. The ball was flying around our box and Jamie Davies eventually stuck it in the back of the net.

We went into half time with the lead, but King's Lynn were playing well. I told the players to keep going at it, to keep trying to win the game. I took off Jason Shackell because he had picked up a yellow card in the first half and replaced him with Alex Pearce.

In the second half we were well on the back foot. We had our backs against the wall and King's Lynn kept coming at us. Tamer Edwards equalised for them from 20 yards. I wasn't happy that we had let a team we should be beating easily come back from 2-0 down.

On a positive note, we threw everything at them and in the end Jonathan Curtis sliced the ball into his own net with 9 minutes left. Hopefully we could hold onto the lead this time. It wasn't to be though because Neil Cox scored from a Jamie Scroggins cross to level it again in the dying minutes. Alex Pearce could have won it for us in stoppage time with a header from a corner, but it was brilliantly saved by the King's Lynn goalkeeper. We were pushed hard, we should have won, but we showed we could play well in difficult circumstances.

King's Lynn 3-3 Norwich City
Cotterill 10, Evans 34, Own Goal 81

DOHERTY PICKS UP INJURY

Norwich City defender Gary Doherty will not be able to play football for up to 2 weeks after he damaged a heel when he was jumping for the ball in the friendly game against King's Lynn at The Walks Stadium. Doherty joins Darren Huckerby on the injury list.

draw against king lyns not the best

KUTGW awesome story wid the caneries

King's Lynn are a fairly good team, but Norwich should be beating them easily.

GREENACRE TRANSFER FALLS THROUGH

The deal moving Chris Greenacre from Tranmere Rovers in exchange for Norwich City's Mickey Spillane has collapsed, after the 18 year old midfielder refused to sign a contract in Birkenhead. Spillane has apparently set his requirement of a large bonus for his first team appearances that the Coca Cola League One side cannot meet.

AUGUST 2007 PREVIEW

Norwich City kick off the new season in the Coca Cola Championship in this month, their first under new manager Lee Payne.

11th August 2007: Coventry City at The Ricoh Arena, Coventry
15th August 2007: Lincoln City at Sincil Bank, Lincoln (Carling Cup 1st round)
18th August 2007: Hull City at Carrow Road, Norwich
25th August 2007: Queen's Park Rangers at Loftus Road, London

The Canaries will be hopeful of wins over Hull City and Queen's Park Rangers, but they will have to dig deep to get something out of Coventry City at The Ricoh Arena on the opening day.

They are a good side, pushing for promotion to the Blue Square leagues. This might have been a flash in the pan though.

hahaha tempted....good old town cant wait for the canaries vs trackies in the league

Good games, they will be.

BIG MONEY FOR CANARIES SUCCESS

Norwich City will offer ?1.3 million to be shared amongst their squad if they win the Coca Cola Championship this season. They will also give them ?450,000 if they win one of the Carling Cup or FA Cup. Both of these figures are higher than normal, so they may suggest the Canaries are not expected to achieve either, but they could act as an incentive for the players.

CAVE-BROWN OUT OF ACTION FOR UP TO 3 WEEKS

Young Norwich City defender Andrew Cave-Brown will not be able to play football for 2 to 3 weeks after twisting his knee during a training session. The 18 year old had been used by manager Lee Payne in the pre-season friendlies, and he could have been on the verge of a league debut. His ambitions will now be set back for a while.

CANARIES TO PLAY LINCOLN CITY IN CARLING CUP

Norwich City have been drawn against Lincoln City in the first round of the Carling Cup. The game will be played at Sincil Bank on Wednesday 15th August 2007. The Canaries will be pleased to have got the Coca Cola League Two side, as they could have faced much fiercer opposition.

EAGLE MOVES TO EBBSFLEET UNITED

20 year old Norwich City midfielder Robert Eagle has moved to Blue Square Premier side Ebbsfleet United for 3 months. It is hoped the youngster will get some first team experience there and come back hungry to play for the Canaries.

DRURY BID REJECTED

Norwich City have rejected a ?290,000 offer from newly promoted Bristol City for their defender and former captain Adam Drury. It is believed the Canaries want to keep him for his experience.

FOTHERINGHAM CONFIRMED AS CANARIES CAPTAIN

Norwich City have appointed midfielder Mark Fotheringham as their club captain for this season. Jason Shackell has been unveiled as his vice captain. Both decisions were expected.

NORWICH CITY LAND PARKIN

Norwich City beat off competition from four other clubs to sign striker Jon Parkin from Stoke City. The Canaries offered ?500,000 as well as their midfielder Mickey Spillane to secure the deal.

FOUR PLAYERS SIGN NEW CONTRACTS AT CARROW ROAD

Captain Mark Fotheringham, midfielder Darren Huckerby and defenders Gary Doherty and Andrew Cave-Brown have all signed new contracts to stay at Norwich City. Huckerby apparently refused an early offer but accepted an improved one, citing his love for the club as his reasons for doing so.

CANARIES FINALLY REPLACE SCOUTS

Norwich City have replaced the 4 scouts that left the club in a mass exodus during the pre-season. Huw Lake from Swansea City, and unemployed Steve Williams, Ollie Beesley and Andy Wright have been appointed at Carrow Road.

CANARIES SENT TO COVENTRY

The Norwich City squad have arrived in Coventry ahead of their opening Coca Cola Championship game against Coventry City at The Ricoh Arena. The Sky Blues are 6/4 favourites to win the game. Canaries manager Lee Payne has admitted 'the pressure is on' as the season begins.

Nah, no pressure in the Championship, just make sure you get off to a good start else you'll be playing catchup for the rest of the season.

Good luck and keep it up. :)
