Norwich City 0-1 Reading
Norwich City are now without a win in five matches after defeat at home to reading.
Norwich City's luckless start to the season continued at Carrow Road with a controversial penalty decision being the difference between themselves and Reading on a torrid afternoon.
The Canaries had the better of the first half and midfielder Sammy Clingan smashed a shot against the crossbar, but goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann managed to keep all of the home side's efforts out.
Stern John was not given the space to make an impact on his debut for the Norfolk club, leading to a frustrating afternoon for the 31-year old.
In the 71st minute, Clingan was penalised for fouling Shane Long, a decision which City defender Dejan Stefanovic later said was 'harsh' on the Northern Ireland international. Replays showed the foul may have taken place outside the penalty area.
Stephen Hunt converted the spot kick and with just 18 minutes to go the visitors closed out to go back to Berkshire 3rd in the table.
Norwich now find themselves rock bottom of the Championship, 2 points adrift of safety. Their next match is a midweek trip to St Andrews to face Birmingham City, who dispatched the Canaries in the Carling Cup just last month.
Manager Bryan Gunn will have to spend the game in the stands after being given a one match touchline ban for comments he made about the referee following the defeat to Reading.
