ODI should be scrapped

Let me drop in some of my opinions here. ODI is a format wherein many new talents are introduced. It is a pure classy format which helps us to determine the strength and weaknesses of a player. I too agree that it may prove to be a format where the strong teams competing against associates or weak teams always win the match which is very obvious (one sided).

T20 format was introduced in year 2007 which gave birth to many domestic T20 leagues around the world. That is how it got popular. Associates can host some matches in their home against a nation topping in T20/ODI so that they get some experience playing against strong teams and build their confidence playing at home.

In crowds' prospective, its clear that they want ODIs more than T20s. I'm saying this without any points or TRPs or anything because we all know people just want entertainment and not the format. Whichever the format might be, people love Cricket than the format in which it is played. People don't bother much about the format.

Test is a testing format but not so entertaining as the ODIs or T20s. In such cases you have to scrap the Test format considering the facts that revenue and expenditure gained from a test series.

In short, we don't need the scrapping or including in Cricket. It is good in current state and people love how it is operating currently.

Let me clear, The first T20I was played back in 2005 between Australia & New Zealand which Australia won by 44 runs.

Dont agree with this point at all, Crowd just want to get excitement , yes they are least concerned about format but if you will pick up records then its clear that T20 matches way go ahead with tight finish than ODIs.

Do you really consider ODI more popular than T20 now? :)

My bad. I should've mentioned it as 1st T20I WC tournment in 2007.

In terms of popularity, T20s are way too popular than ODIs and I too agree with it. But, popularity is not the one which makes the players great or the team strong. They need different kinds of situations and testing times which other formats like ODIs or Tests provide.

Bro perhaps you did not read my earlier posts properly in this thread, i am not saying that T20 Cricket is better skillful format than ODI (thoough T20 requires other type of skills ) but my point was when we already have Test matches for showing skills then why teams should play odis and specially those ones played in bilateral series .

I would like to watch 1 or 2 more test matches in a series than watching meaningless odis , again its just my opinion . rather than ICC should try to organize these ODI matches in more meaningful way (like a ODi tournmanet between 3 or 4 teams on annual basis )

Also the whole point of ODIs is too allow stronger teams to still be able to be win, in T20s any team can beat any team which removes the rankings and the ability to say 'I beat you' as we all know the next game could be the complete opposite result. You say ODIs finish one sided but so do tests. ODIs aren't as exciting but likewise with tests. People who only watch cricket for the big sixes aren't true cricket fans as cricket is a mental game, it's all about being able to contain a side and perform to your best for however long is required. The reason why ODIs are so enjoyable is because (as you have said many times before) it requires similar skills to test cricket and you still get that sense of true cricket, proper technique, good bowling and fielding, starting aggressively with 3 slips and being able to adapt to every situation which effectively makes ODIs a test match but within one day making it an easier way to watch proper cricket without having to devote 20+ hours of your life. After the World Cup you can't say watching ODIs isn't as or more entertaining then T20 cricket. Seeing teams set themselves up to score 100 runs in the last 10 is just as exciting as watching a T20. On top of that ODIs have produced great games where you watch teams rebuild from the 20th over and slave away for 15-25 overs and saving a game for their side which doesn't happen in T20s (Yea sure people can hit 70 from number 7 but you can't see the patience from test cricket and watch two batsmen set themselves which takes huge amounts of composure). I'm pretty sure people weren't very excited watching teams limper to 120 in the T20 World Cup whereas low scores in ODIs can still be exciting (NZ vs Aus in the group stages) and if you score 240 (a low score by todays standards) you can still defend and have HUGE SIXSS!!! (Typo on purpose) whereas in T20s if there isn't 6s from ball one it loses it's entertainment and according to you it's value...

in T20s any team can beat any team which removes the rankings and the ability to say 'I beat you

This thing in T20 makes this format actually much more enjoyable and unpredictable, any team can win any day .

Next month An ODI series between SA,Aus and WI are to be scheduled , Top teams(SA,AUS) would playing against 8 number team Westindies. so it will be a competitive odi series? i dont think so

T20 is the future of cricket. India and Australia have created two world class cricket leagues of their own - IPL and Big Bash. It is now turn of England to create a similar world class T20 league of their own. It will secure the future of Cricket as a top class sport in 21st century.

Not just India and Australia. the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is quite good too

I prefer ODI Cricket to T20 stuff; that's
and i prefer t20 Matches over long running boring one sided odis,

Seeing teams set themselves up to score 100 runs in the last 10 is just as exciting as watching a T20

And for that crowd would have to wait for 40 overs .

One more thing that goes in favor of T20 format is that Cricket Will Be Included In The Olympic Games, Sooner Or Later. Obviously, It'll Be Only Twenty20 Cricket. Could you even imagine this thing happening with ODI format?

Resistance In This Regard. One Thing Is For Sure, Cricket Will Be Better, Much More Popular And A True Global Game When It'll Be Played At The Olympics - Probably, The 2024 Games!

I don't see how lots of people watching the BBL somehow means that we should end ODI cricket

Also the BBL isn't exactly comparable with the AFL or the NRL, they last six times longer and have a much more limited number of free TV games

Cricket, for the first time, now averages over a million nationally across all the major formats – Nine’s Tests, ODIs, Twenty20 internationals and most remarkably, Ten’s booming domestic competition, making the bat and ball game Australia’s highest rating sport.

But on a match-by-match basis the BBL is stunningly now the leader of the pack.

On the crowd front T20 is also dominating its rivals, with only the AFL’s average of 33,000 per game coming in higher than the BBL’s average attendance of 29,000, which is up 6000 on its previous season.

This is the simple indication what people actually want, they going to watch bbl in such numbers because this is real excitement , its simple

same story goes with CPL, and IPL you know it (its already the biggest cricket league) .

Because of CPL only , peoples started coming back to ground and watch in caribbean regions. look at their facebook page, peoples are really crazy about this , believe me

CPL T20
